Since they appear to have dropped the Camry off the consumer reports recommended list will this effect anyone that is looking to buy. I go by that guide to purchase cars. If it's not recommended I usually ignore the model. I may also look into fords since they appear to be moving up on the list (ouch did I just say that!) I have a 2001 camry that seems to be pretty reliable nothing but breaks really.

They'll now be treated like other car companies. New models will be "too new to rate" until owners report their experiences.

GM and Chrysler on the other hand I think still makes problem cars. Toyota will probally start a big campaign to improve their image. They won't let that bad rating stay for long. That CR report will get them off their butts. Funny I just purchased a copy of CR that had the 2007's good till Jan 2008 and the Camry was recommended. I can't stand that they appear to have another report that I don't have. I just bought that report 2 weeks ago. They appear to publish it more then once a year.

I was very anxious to ride in my co-workers brand new 2008 Fusion SEL V6 a couple days ago, considering that Ford has been moving up the ranks while Toyota has been cut down a couple notches. So I thought I would post my observations here and see what you all think. First, the Fusion is overall a nice car. Nice ride, solid, decent looking (subjective)... But all I could think about was why can't they match up all of the interior plastics? The airbag cover was completely different from the rest of the dash. There was flashing present on many of the edges, especially around the door pulls. Most of the panels fit well enough, but I noted a few that did not line up at all. The interior also felt rubbery. The Camrys I have been in have been very rich looking, with exceptional finish and nothing amiss. It's a tragedy that Toyota's 6 speed is having issues - it seems like it's being exploited as a way to kick them while they are down. The Fusion is far and away a lesser car than the Camry and it was irksome to see what it's really like after hearing all of the gloating about Ford getting better initial quality ratings than Toyota. I am in the market for a new car and really want the Camry V6 SE - bad. But the tranny problem has me in a holding pattern. I might end up with something else - an Acura maybe... I don't know, but the Camry is my first choice if I was confident the tranny wouldn't break. So disappointed. We have an 07 Sienna XLE ltd and we love it. I would love that engine in a car that weighs 1000 lbs less! |

So does anyone know what Toyota is doing about the 6 speed tranny issues? It's breaking my heart Plan B is to buy something used so as to get rid of my Ody but avoid paying all of the depreciation on a car I don't want to keep very long, and drive it for a year or two, giving Toyota time to work out the bugs with the 6 speed, and then get the Camry? |
