Are you talking about the Z3 M Coupe or the original 1988 (E30) M3?

OK, so now that I've read the article, all I can say is that the author, John Barker, doesn't know much about M cars.

The E30 M3 is not turbocharged.

While I do agree about the selection of cars and the one you chose as the number one car why oh why didn't you incluse the E36 M Coupe with the S54 Motor? I think it would have been another great addition to this line of cars and one of the best M cars ever in my opinion. What do you think?

Has M lost its Mojo? by stephen987

The description of the E92 M3 makes it sound as though the M division has taken on more of the character of Alpina--fast, refined tourers with mountains of power but no edge. I thought M stood for Motorsport.

"M" hasn't stood for motorsport since 1991.

The newer the car, the worse the steering feel. WHY? by smedin

I don't really understand. I know that as the newer cars get more powerful and bigger, all the components need to get beefier. But why the loss of steering feel? Steering feel is SO important to the sporting experience, perhaps moreso than the speed and actual handling prowess. Can't the manufacturers simply harden up all the rubber bushings between the steering wheel and the front tires? This has bugged me deeply for years. I think a special feature story is in order!

I always had a soft spot for the E24 M6 and E28 M5. The new M3s are very similar to those cars in terms of size and weight. If I get an M3 sedan I'll consider it to be a new iteration of the revered E28- but if I want a real M3 I'll buy one built before 1992.
