Long-Term Test: 2007 Toyota Tundra SR5 Double Cab - Starting with a 2007 Tundra SR5 double cab, we had two requirements: four-wheel drive and a V8. The big 5.7-liter V8. It's the most powerful, most capable, and is the closest match to our long-term Chevy Silverado's 6.0-liter mill. What it lacks in displacement, it makes up for in power: 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet at only 3,600 rpm. Compare that to our Silverado, which kicks out 367 hp and only 375 lb-ft at 4,300 rpm. Wheel hop can be caused by many problems, including excessive unsprung weight, insufficient shock damping, or poor torsional axle control. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7887155/ http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070927/BUSINESS01/709270427 http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls04/2006/toyota_worldwide.html Toyota saw a departure from its quality-obsessed character—recalling nearly 1.5 million vehicles worldwide, spanning every single model line produced that year. Ford has had it's share of issues dealing with those fire related issues, but you'll find that it's actually a similar percentage of vehicles affected being that Ford sells more than 400,000 F150's a year alone. The recall afected more models of vehicles than the F150 over more than 1 year.

See previous comment about Toyota's less than newsworthy top ranking. BTW, I own a 1999 Toyota Camry which is bulletproof so far, mechanically speaking so I'll be keeping it for some time. I also own a 2005 Ford Freestyle which also proves to be bulletproof. The Camry, however, is by far the worst vehicle I have ever driven as far as vehicle dynamics is concerned. It has more body roll than the Freestyle despite being very, very low to the ground. The power steering is not consitent, but I do have to applaud the steering feel. I love Toyota! Their cars have been good to me. (I unfortunately wrecked my 1996 Camry head on without injury, although the addition of ABS would have avoided the acident entirely.) I'm just not impressed with the reliability of any of the latest lineup, and I mean "any". Ford (albeit mostly related to Volvo, my Freestyle being one of them) and company can atleast say that they have had a couple vehicles that have been near bulletproof lately.

Stick to responses about the Tundra article itself... we have other discussions for other issues. Thanks! kcram - Pickups Host |
