Long-Term Test: 2007 Toyota Tundra SR5 Double Cab - Starting with a 2007 Tundra SR5 double cab, we had two requirements: four-wheel drive and a V8. The big 5.7-liter V8. It's the most powerful, most capable, and is the closest match to our long-term Chevy Silverado's 6.0-liter mill. What it lacks in displacement, it makes up for in power: 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet at only 3,600 rpm. Compare that to our Silverado, which kicks out 367 hp and only 375 lb-ft at 4,300 rpm. A stop by would be....educational: http://www.iihs.org/ratings/summary.aspx?class=70 I guess Tundra is sandbaggin' about 3-4k lbs. then, because it is easily better at towing than the Ford. It does everything twice as fast, and twice as easy: http://www.trailerboats.com/output.cfm?id=1210051 Hopefully, Toyota will just start saying the Tundra can tow 15k, and we'll see what Ford does then. I think the F-150 would explode under 12k. DrFill

This Ford truck created a fire that could have turned deadly. Julie from Willits, California tells the story of how her brother-in-law's 2007 Ford F150 caught fire in his driveway and burned to the ground. “He just brought his brand-new baby girl home 3 hours before,” Julie wrote. “We were all sleeping in the house, when my sister woke to some sort of lights outside. She went to the window she saw the Ford engulfed in 100-foot flames,” Julie told ConsumerAffairs.com.

If the sole reason you are buying a 1/2 ton truck is to off road at 30 MPH over trenches while hauling precious china in the bed of your truck, then most certainly you should buy a Ford. Just make sure you park the F150 in the lawn and leave the sprinklers running all night to be safe.

by both GM and Ford though. Both scrimp on the safety features. Ford is the worst offender but admittedly it's got the most outdated vehicle of the 6 competitors. The 1/2-tonner will still be the weakling of the bunch next year when the 'ALL NEW' ( except for the 5.4L engine ) F150 hits the streets. Hopefully Ford will do the right thing and put S&C airbags and stability control in at least most of the vehicles. Ford seems to have a problem making a commitment to keeping it's drivers safe. A few recent examples.. ...Exploder.uhhh the entire design, tires, rollovers ...disastrous IIHS crash tests on previous F150 ( you don't want to see these pictures ) ...lack of S&C airbags in the wonderful new Fusion, putting it dead last ( bad phrase ...lack of S&C airbags or Stability Control ( Hellooo? Did we learn anything from the Exploder fiasco? ). OK Ford is on its back and moaning so it's not good form to dance around an injured player. However to hear some here it's like the injured player is being carried to the sidelines woozy with a concussion still trash-talking crazy stuff. 'I was the best 10 yrs ago, right coach?' 'I sure hit that guy's knee hard with my head, didn't I?' 'Where'd all those guys come from anyway?' 'I don't need no dam helmet.'

Replying to: idriveasunbird (Oct 13, 2007 3:28 pm) Wheel Hop: An undesirable suspension characteristic in which a wheel (or several) moves up and down so violently that it actually leaves the ground. Wheel hop can be caused by many problems, including excessive unsprung weight, insufficient shock damping, or poor torsional axle control. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7887155/ http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070927/BUSINESS01/709270427 http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls04/2006/toyota_worldwide.html Toyota saw a departure from its quality-obsessed character—recalling nearly 1.5 million vehicles worldwide, spanning every single model line produced that year. Ford has had it's share of issues dealing with those fire related issues, but you'll find that it's actually a similar percentage of vehicles affected being that Ford sells more than 400,000 F150's a year alone. The recall afected more models of vehicles than the F150 over more than 1 year.
