I have an 02 Grand Am that is at the Pontiac dealership at this very moment. About a month ago, right after I got a tune-up, it started making a loud rattling noise whenever I started it up.... but as the engine warms up, the noise completely stops. I've had several mechanice try to figure out what the noise is... but ironically, it never makes the noise when I go to have it checked out. On top of that, I've had problems with the Security Passlock for about 2 years. Sometimes the car will start and sometimes it won't so I never know when it's going to leave me and my kids stranded. Usually I can just reset it myself, but there have been 2 occasions when I couldn't and had to have it towed and reset by the dealership at the grand price of $650 each time... that's $1300! Money that I'm apparently just throwing away because the problems usually comes back after a couple of months. It's been "fixed" twice this year already and then on Aug 8, the Security light came on again and has been on ever since. But since the care was still starting with no problem, I just ignored it. Until this morning anyway, when it decided not to start. On top of all that, it's hesitating. When I accelerate, the engine revs but the car is slow to get going. Not a good thing when your driving on the highway in rush hour traffic. When I dropped it off at the dealership this morning, the guy says "You sure you don't want me to just introduce you to a salesman, instead." Ha. Funny. A friend suggested I just park the piece of crap in front of the dealership and leave it there. And believe me, I'm definitely tempted. I'll never ever buy another Pontiac.

Replying to: momof3divaz (Oct 11, 2007 11:01 am) When they try to repair the Passlock, what are they doing exactly for $650? Sounds about like what they charge to replace the ignition switch to fix the Hall effect sensor problem, but if that hasn't repaired it then it's possible you have another problem. There's been reports of a connector that gets corroded on a control module in wet/humid climates that can have similar symptoms. |
