"You keeping missing the point repeatedly. If you could, you would have got it by now. "

madmanmoo -

Could you please answer the very simple question I asked, and will repeat below?

In that example, would the customer have received a lower level of service from you than what a more profitable customer would have received?

Thanks

Exactly, you do not have to be an A/H when you negotiate. Just respect the other guy, use common sense and get the best deal you can without being abusive or disagreeable.

Would you please give us a few examples of customers acting like A/H while negotiating?

Also, how can one possibly not be disagreeable while negotiating? The only way not to be disagreeable is to agree to seller’s asking price. How do you feel about Bobst method? He disagrees with your asking price, gives you a take or leave it offer and walks away.

Excellent work! Just for that, I'm going to see that your 2009 Edmunds.com membership fees are fully waived.

One question I will pose to the consumers in this forum from a sales persons perspective: Is there ANYTHING and I mean ANY"FREAKIN"THING you buy as a consumer that you give any thought to or care one iota about what the profit margin your retail provider is making. Do you ask to see the invoice on that Prada bag you're buying? The TempurPedic deluxe pillow top,$5,500 Mattress you are in love with? How about a Tag Heuer or Rolex watch? Any idea or concern as to what the dealer paid for it?Are you even vaguely aware that the guy that sells you a new Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn 5 piece bedroom set probably makes twice the profit a dealer makes selling you a $50,000 Convertible? and do you care? apparently not!
Inside joke Whats the consumers definition of a good car deal vs. a bad car deal? A good deal is whatever I paid for my car,a bad deal is whatever you paid for your car.Everyone will lie about how much they paid for their home and how little they paid for their car!

No, but I will respond with a question of my own.

Do you like fishing?

How long has this discussion been going? Clearly, both parties refuse to consider the other's perspective. Send me an email when it's done.

"No, but I will respond with a question of my own."

Of course you won't. The fact that you refuse to answer a simple yes/no question is proof that your position on this issue is wrong and invalid.

The guy here was seeking advice for the invoice minus rebates deal he got. Your response was...

"Ya, if they are offering that deal to you, don't worry about the profit they are making. They obviously just want to move some vehicles out."

Telling him not to worry about the dealer's profit goes directly against your premise/position that zero-profit customers do not get the same level of service as profitable customers.

If you position was accurate, you would have warned the guy to expect less service than if he were paying more, but you did the complete opposite.

I asked you a very simple and clear question about fishing that you refused to answer. That means that everything you've ever said is wrong.

madmanmoo -

You must be about 12 years old.

Yes, I like to fish. Unfortunately, that has nothing to do with the topic we have been discussing. Whereas the question you won't answer is directly related to your argument/position.

Not the profit margin but I do research big purchases and look for the lowest price. I have been known to negotiate on items that are considered non-negotiable. may not get a lower price but I have gotten thing tossed in for free or additional services.

I personally could care less what a dealer makes or if they make any money. I negotiate a price that I am comfortable paying. I do all my research and number crunching before I finalize a deal. Plus there are so many ways that a dealer makes money on selling cars that I (and you) may not be aware of like manufacturer sales incentives.

Sensing from your post, it seems like you are frustrated with some of your customers. All I will say is either change your approach to be more adaptive to the individual customer (ie - the ones who have done their research, know all the options, etc., talk straight to them; the ones that need more hand holding, you know it is going to take some time and more patience on your part) or get out of the business? Retail sales is tough because you have to deal with all customers. I'll admit, some of us can be a pain the a** but it is your job to deal with it (within reason).

Basically, get over it and realize it is part of car buying process since so much information is available on the internet.
