What is this discussion about? Chevrolet Malibu, Sedan

First Look: 2008 Chevrolet Malibu - There's more to the new Mailbu than just the sheet metal and the low-sheen plastic. Even the proportions look significantly better thanks to a wheelbase that's a whopping 6 inches longer than the outgoing Malibu (now the longest in the class). From nose to tail, the Malibu measures 3 inches longer than before, and this visually pushes the wheels to the corners of the car and gives it a stable look. These dimensions should also provide GM with the means to make tangible improvements in ride quality and handling compared to previous efforts. (more)

First Drive: 2008 Chevrolet Malibu - he new Malibu shares the same basic chassis as the well-received Saturn Aura, and this means the expected MacPherson strut front suspension and multilink independent rear. It differs from the Aura only in tuning, really. Chevrolet says it used a new tuning philosophy for the Malibu, and as far as we can tell, this means the car now slots between the mushy Camry and the sporty Accord. (here)

Full Test: 2008 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ - The new Malibu jumps smack in the middle of most consideration lists. It might even sell well to the lost generation in California. (more)

Have we really gotten to the point where a car that's 57+ inches tall is low slung? Amazing change in size in the last decade or so.

The 3.6 horsepower is sae certified, meaning the japanese sedans make more horsepower on paper. Plus it has more low rpm torque than the japanese engines. In all the tests I've seen, the 3.6 aura and g6 are at least equal if not faster than the altima/accord/camry.

Well Toyata for life, dude at least GM can make a transmission the will hold up for more than 6 months, and Toyota makes cars that even your 5 your old son could design. Also uhm.. I wonder why consumer reports just dropped the Camry and Tundra from their recommended status. Oh yeah what about the 440,000 cars they just recalled in Japan.

HMMM? coming from someone with the name Toyota for life? Please! Right now Toyota is a little shaken. The Accord will outsell the Camry (the only reason it hasn't is because of fleet sales). And the Malibu is giving both major hits. Styling looks better than the plainess of the Accord, and the ugly Camry- which looks like MAzda gone totally wrong.

If T4Life ever drives this car, he will like it, but won't say anything because that will hurt his image.

Of course dude Toyota4life won't like it because it isn't bland and boring like every Toyota made. He is actually worried that it may take some sales from his bot car the Camry. The bu is a good looking car, and so is the Honda Accord, which will both take sales away from the Camry.

This topic is to discuss the article (linked at the top), which is not about the Camry or Accord. Also, uncivil comments towards each other is inappropriate no matter where you are in the Forums.

Normally I think the hosts are a bit quick to quiet things down but in this case it HAS eroded into pure smack.

I have no brand loyalty, can't imagine calling yourself Toyota4life. However I've owned Toyotas in the past and currently have a Malibu Maxx. The new Malibu looks pretty good to me. GM is learning to do interiors. That's not to say that I've bad luck with Toyotas, just that they're getting more and more conservative (except for the fast but troublesome V6). I'll carefully weigh my next new car purchase. It might be Toyota, it might be Korean or it might be a GM product.
