I love getting the trumpet tips from Doc Severenson and Maynard Ferguson. That's great.

Closest I come to that was getting to talk to Gordon Lightfoot who gave me tips on getting a career singing your own songs. I'm a little old for it at this point but it was much appreciated anyway.

If you live in a city with professional sports teams, you run into them all the time. If you happen to have a job where you deliver to residences, even more so..

So, tons of Bengals and Reds players... Some interesting stories, but not much worth relating here..

But, one stands out... I was delivering to a doctor, where I'd been before, and this time, when I rang the doorbell.... a young (20s) guy answered in just a pair of gym shorts... Fully grown, but very small... It was Triple Crown jockey, Steve Cauthen! (also from this area). By this time, he was riding in Great Britain, and had met the doctor's daughter over there, even though they grew up just 20 miles apart.. At this time, they were engaged.

As far as movie/TV stars? I was in Akron for the Soap Box Derby in 1970.. A few of the stars in attendance:

Lorne Greene (Bonanza)
Lloyd Hanes (Room 222)
James Drury (The Virginian)

Mr. Drury was quite intoxicated, and was hitting on my 19-yr-old sister...lol.

I have another story involving Bob Seger, but I actually missed out on the actual meeting, and only know it second-hand from my friends.. Plus, it's not really suitable for a G-rated forum, like this one..

I was on stage for a John Cougar/The Kinks concert... At least for the opening act (Cougar). Unfortunately, I was there to see The Kinks, and the stage manger kicked me out from backstage before they came on... ("I met her in a club down in old Soho... ") I did get to shake Ray Davies hand...

I was an invited scientist at an Oxford University Department some time ago. David, the Department Head, knew I almost was as big a music lover as he was. One morning he told me:

—Jose, do you want two invitations for tomorrow's concert at the Sheldonian Theatre? The program will be performed by the Oxford Young Orchestra.

—My wife and I will have a great pleasure; thank you, David.

I eagerly replied. Then he handed me two tickets. That evening I told my wife we had two balcony tickets for next day concert.

Right at the Sheldonian we were the evening after: casually dressed, directly from the lab to the pub and then to the theater, as we used to do for other concerts.

I started to realize that something was wrong when I handed our tickets to the doorman. He stared at us unusually stone-faced, and gave them to a steward even more supercilious than him. The steward show us to two seats just at the center of the second row of a very tiny and luxurious pit, which had only 5-6 seat rows on a rich blue carpet circled by thick cordons; the place was face-to-face with the Young Orchestra. Every one in the pit wore tuxedos and long gowns. The theater was full to the roof and we felt everybody's eyes upon us. My poor wife and I were absolutely embarrassed.

Suddenly, the couple sitting in front of us—first row, the very center of the pit—stood up and started a friendly chat with us until the orchestra conductor came to the stage and silence was obliged. We felt tremendously comfortable after the first chat minute, and we thanked the couple after the concert. Those were manners! The couple was Mr. and Mrs. Wilson. Mr. Harold Wilson was the Oxford University Honorary Principal and former British Prime Minister.

When receiving the tickets, I had forgotten than David was one of the Patrons of the Oxford Young Orchestra. He had passed to me their own season tickets, and I was not sage enough as to read what row and seats were written on the tickets before nonchalantly going to the concert.

Regards,
Jose

I met Schwartzkopf about 1992 or so when I pulled up next to him at a light. He and his family were here for some sort of speech he was going to give the next day. My dog was hanging out the window, and he asked about him. We pulled up to the next half dozen lights and talked, mostly about our dogs. He had at least one Lab back then. My dog was a Pit Bull/Golden Ret/??? mix, and was kind of a local celebrity.Of course, we told no one he had any Pit in him, since the laws and our local dog warden are both insane.

Others I have met, I lived in Vegas for years:

Buddy Hackett
Don Rickles
Foster Brooks
Buzz Aldrin
Joe Frazier ( I have no idea what he said to me)
Tony "The Ant" Spilotro (Neighbor) Mob hit man
Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal (Mom's neighbor) Watch "Casino" to know who they are.
Simon Oakland (Three times)
Nelson Rockefeller (literally ran into him in hotel lobby)
Phyllis McGuire
Jerry Lewis (Nearly got into a fistfight with him!)
James Garner
Emerson Lake and Palmer.
Paul Anka
Tom Jones
Loretta Lynn and her husband, he was buying (ahem) adult videos, before she came in.
Lorne Greene.
Robert Urich
Greg Morris
Phyllis Davis
Peter Mark Richman (TV actor, look up his pic, you'll recognize him, usually played bad guys)
Andrew Robinson (Scorpio from the original Dirty Harry movie, and bad guy/psycho in tons of movies and TV shows)
June Lockhart
Jim Brown (One of the nastiest guys I have ever met, celeb or not)

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, but that's most of them.

Tuesday evening I had the distinct pleasure of meeting one of my favorite drummers and bass players. From Oakland California and going on strong for forty years, David Garibaldi the funky drummer and his bass player Francis "Rocco" Prestia.
I met Dave before the concert while they were doing a sound check. I went up to the stage as he was heading for the dressing room. I called out to him "Dave!" and he turned around and smiled and walked over to where I was. He shook my hand and suddenly tongue tied. I mumbled something about being one of his biggest fans and trying to play some of the syncopated beats his known for. He just smiled and said. "Thank you. Enjoy the show."
I met Rocco after the show as some of the band members like to meet their fans. I was hoping Dave would come out so I could get some pointers and ask him a few questions but only Rocco and the singer Larry Braggs (whom I also talked to) and a few of the horn players came out.
I took a picture of Rocco and me with my cell phone camera as my digital cam ran out of batteries. Didn't get to take a picture of Garibaldi, but at least I got to meet the man. Had a great time at the concert.
 Mack.

P.S. Here's the picture of me and Rocco. He was trying to take my hat off and asked "What's with the hat?" I told him my hair fell off due to chemo and then I asked about his liver since he had a transplant some years ago. He replied; "My liver is ok, I'm working on my kidneys now."

Mike Pence, US congressman that got cut out of a chance to speak at the Repub convention due to Gustav. He came to my house campaigning for his first ever local seat.

Peyton Manning, He was in Mancino's Pizza when Colt's training camp was in Anderson the year he was a rookie. It was like week 1 of training camp and he was just a draftee. Did anyone see what he pulled out on Sunday?
