Trying to replace the fuel filter. I have located the fuel filter and was able to remove the clips, but am unable to pull the hoses off of each end in order to remove the filter. I pulled fairly hard and even used a screwdriver to apply slight pressure, but they don't seem to budge. Has anyone successfully replaced a fuel filter on this model? Is there more to it than meets the eye? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

They should just come off if you removed the retaining locking clips properly...try rotating the filter to break any seal or vaccumm the lines may have. Good Luck!

I am also having the same problem but found out some information from various web sites. First you need to relieve presure on the fuel system. One site said to open the gas cap, locate the fuel pump fuse (Escape is fuse #3 and was listed in the owners manual) and start the engine then pull out the fuse and the engine should die after a few seconds. Then you need to get a little plastic tool called an A/C & Fuel line Quick Disconnect Tool Set. ($10 at auto store) The one you need to use it the 5/16" one. Push it over the tube and then down into the connector. It is supposed to release the connector from the filter tube. Saying all that I still could not get the connector off. So if anyone has more info please post. Thanks.

I had the same problem. The connectors have four tabs that lock over the collar o f the filter line. I used a hacksaw to nick the line on the old filter and bent it until it broke off. The fuel did spray some so watch for the mess! Then I made a sleeve from an old piece of sheet metal and slid it over the line left in the connector. I pulled the sleeve and line out together with needle nose pliers. Worked well but it was meesier than it should have been but I wasn't going to the dealer to buy some special tool.
