I'll have to disagree with you on this one spidey. The VENZA seems to be targeted at younger buyers and not geriatrics like Highlander and Avalon buyers. I would venture to say this demographic is the young urban professional known in the eighties as "yuppies" They have the HD plasma or LCD big screen at home, hooked up to the XBOX 350 and Playstation 3 with the Blue Ray technology. Household income between $80-150k, one kid maybe two. And they all have iPods, iPhones, Blackberrys, and Palm pilots.

To me it's not a concern as it was explained by a Toyota Master Mechanic the way it works and it makes perfect sense to me. The ECU senses the accelerator to the flavor and pauses to decide what the real intentions of the driver are. If the pedal remains on the floor and there is no pedal lift then the tranny downshifts and takes off like a bat out of hell. No different than the car I drive now.

The JBL in the Venza sounds better than the one in the 4-runnner. I always use Hotel California "live version" by the Eagles as my benchmark and it sounds great in the Venza. I also test some dance music with a lot of bass and it thumps with a solid, rich sound.

There is NO excuse for a salesperson not knowing how to open the hatch or the hood on any car. Trust me, we are not all like that and I have been reading and studying about the Venza for several weeks now. And any sales person that does not know the answer to a guests questions should reply with "Thats a good question, I will find out and get back to you" Perhaps he was new and not really even a car guy like I am.

All the articles and press releases say the Venza's target market is the baby boomer, and those are far from geriatric and far from yuppies with kids at home.

I'd much rather have a generic MP3 player connection than a specialized iPod one. If I were into name brands like iPod I probably wouldn't be buying a Toyota in the first place.

From Toyota's own words it's primarily directed to Boomers coming out of Sequoias, 4Runners, Siennas, Explorers, Tahoes, etc. They want some room in back but they don't need the seating space that they needed when the family was full of kids and their friends. This group, and I can tell you from direct contact, has little or no knowledge of downloaded music.

The secondary goal with the less expensive 4 cyl model is young families with their first on the way where the mother-to-be is in a sports coup of some type or an old clunker from college. Ths will be their first new family vehicle together. This group is prolly 50/50 between iPODs and MP3 players.

I see absolutely no reason why both can't be provided. At the very least, the option to have the ipod integration should be offered for heaven sake. This was an error IMO.

Mary, my point was that regardless who this vehicle is targeted to, they should have incorporated both type of connectors into the vehicle. They did it on the Scions which sell for under 20k but couldn't put it on a 37k plus vehicle?
