ok, checked it out on the way home. The tank does invade the foot area about 3 inches. I maintain that if your legs are long enough that the seat is all the way back, you don't hit that hump with right-angle legs. It'd have to be more acute than that. You'd have you calf just about against the seat. which is maybe what you do.

Elastic cord protruding from door jam? by cfbender

I picked up my new Sport Automatic last week, and am enjoying it very much. This morning after my commute I opened the driver side door to get out and noticed a white elastic cord, about 6" long, protruding from between the door panels, along the door edge by the hinges. It comes out from between the interior moulding and the door metal, and is about half way between the bottom of the window and the bottom of the door. I tried giving it a little tug, but it didn't budge.

Does anyone have any idea what this might be attached to, and why it popped out all of a sudden? I hope it is a minor thing, and I can just neatly snip it off, but thought I see if anyone has other ideas first.

Thanks

I first noticed mine a couple months ago, although it protrudes from the bottom of the door through a small gap in the door panel. I know that gap is supposed to be there for condensation, but I have no idea what that elastic is for, or comes from. I've been hesitant about snipping it also, but it probably wouldn't hurt anything to do so... I suppose the only way to really find out would be to remove the door panel, and then secure that loose end with some tape.

OK, it sounds like you know what you're talking about. What is the best way to remove the cord then? If I pull harder, will it just come out? Or should I just try to trim it flush with the door panel?

Thanks for your help!

Have you considered taking it to the dealer to ask them what it is?

I would hate to see someone cut off a part that might be integral in keeping water out of some area of the car.

I have had plenty of poor seals over the years and it SUCKS.

I got my Fit last week and noticed the cord on my road trip to Canada this weekend. Do we just trim it off?

I just gave mine a hard tug and it came out, threw it away and moved on. Sort of like a little umbilical cord from it's birth canal in Japan.

Using the Fit instead of a Van by marstokyo

Hi, I'm an artist and owner of a 2007 Fit. I just took down a show of my work at a Gallery in Bethesda, MD. I was sure I would need two cars to take everything back to Baltimore. I didn't. It was pretty amazing the amount of equipment and display pieces, not to mention the art work itself that fit into the Fit™. And there was room for more.

I love my Fit!
