Hello all, My wife & I got an '04 Liberty limited 3.7 V6 new and we have loved it for 42,000 miles so far. I had to get used to the bright red color. We live in south east Idaho and right now I'm looking out my window at a foot of snow on the ground. So what? My camper is a 19 ft 2-axle self-contained. I tow it with an equalizer hitch and a trailer brake. These items are essential and just good common sense. It tows great on the hiway, but I wouldn't recommend hilly loose terrain while towing. Also, Towing mirrors would be nice, and I don't know of any being available at this time. NEVER tow with the overdrive engaged either, you have to be reasonably gentle. Having the overdrive switched off will limit the top speed to about 60-65. That's still slow enough to be safe. I love 4-wheeling in it and the big 17-inch goodyears do the job. I've had it teetering on three wheels numerous times. I've had a lot of people wonder why I take such a fancy (bright red) vehicle out on the trails. I have one comment for those who try to cheat physics and cry about gas mileage: "Slow Down!" during the Carter Administration, everyone drove at 55 mph. I get 25 mpg plus at 55, so I'm content with 23 mpg at 65 mph. I only get 19 mpg at 75 mph, and when I'm in a hurry, I'm content with that too (physics). Also, I put STP fuel injector cleaner in about 1/4 tank and run it through every few months. That helps keep throttle respose snappy. Those who think that the 3.73 gears are too low are out to lunch too. "Slow Down!" Those gears MAKE the vehicle. Throughout the history of 4-wheel-drive, the 3.73 gear has provided a decent level of capability at a nominal expense of top end speed and economy. I was actually amazed that you could still buy a new vehicle with such equipment. Even at $3.00 a gallon, I hope my Jeep lasts 30 years, because I like it that much! So, get a picnic basket or a small camper and use the Liberty to the max. |

| My wife and I Just purchased a 2005 Liberty Sport....Trail-rated 4x4 with almost 70,000 kms. on it. It's dark green with the grey cladding...automatic with the 3.7 litre gas engine. She likes the sit-up-high seating position and the overall feeling of safety for our 2 kids(aged 9 and 3). A week in and I only have 2 beefs....engine noise can be a little excessive and lets not even talk about the gas mileage. Still, out of all the sport-cutes, it's really the only true 4x4. We had considered a used Ford Escape, but are glad with our decision | |
