Took the 2007 Altima 2.5 in for service today with 1,500 miles. Engine has loud rattle when starting cold, and louder when shifting into drive or reverse as the idle kicks down a few hundred rpm. I sense that the engine oil has settled over a period of time not running. Further, I believe the internal engine parts do not get the oil lubercation until fully warmed up. Then the loud rattle goes away. More noticeable as we get into the cooler/colder Fall days. Nissan dealer is calling the "hot line" to see what the problem and/or fix might be. Has anyone experienced this loud rattling noise during engine warmup? |

Replying to: elfenbein (Oct 01, 2007 6:21 pm) If I am told this is normal, that will definitely not be acceptable. Hindsight, I would reconsider buying the 2.5. Otherwise it is a great car. I will post what comes back from the "hot line" call that the dealer makes. (..traveling rest of week, will reply on weekend. Tks.) Please let me know what your results are with Corporate. Likewise, if the local dealer does not resolve my problem, I will also elevate to Nissan Corporation.

Replying to: elfenbein (Oct 01, 2007 6:21 pm) i also have two other problems with new altima (bought it on 9/29) one is that I can hear the WIND NOISE when i speed up to 60 mph... which is quite annoying. Also sometimes when I release the gas paddle and step on the break....the car would "suddently drive foward like a downshifting mechanism". The last problem also happens in the morning, too, which is when I turn the steering wheel...i can hear a grinding noise near the fender.... any thoughts?

I was relieved to find this thread, as I have been experiencing the same extremely loud noise. The dealer told me today the same thing regarding bolts and heat shields, but they're trying to use washers to tighten the bolts, rather than replace the shields. I asked if the rattling can cause deterioration over time, but they said no. Hmmm. And I also have that wind whistle through the driver side window. It is a bit annoying, but overall, I really love my new car.

Using washers to tighten the bolts doesn't sound like something that will be long lasting... Our 2.5 Altima is great, and the gas mileage is starting to improve with city driving. With 2k miles, getting 23 mpg city compared to EPA 26. |
