...reminder on the dash. I think that it's more than a coincidence that one of the huge issues Toyota had was over the sludging problem and their contention that the maintenance was not done timely. Now everytime the light comes on it's normally reset when the service is completed. Black Box recording these events?

Just what data is recorded on the "black box"? I assume that routine engine operation functions are monitored but what else? How long is it stored? I remember stories back a few years where GM was taking readings of stored data and using them to deny warranty claims. As I recall, the car recorded every time the speed was over 80 and the dealers were claiming customer abuse. |
