First off, this is a much better looking car than the previous generation of Lancer's/Evolutions. This new Lancer platform has a look all of it's own, but I do have one concern that I'll get to in a moment.

The slick dual clutch manu-matic sounds just as good as VW's version in their GTI and it'll allow all those non-manual transmission drivers a chance to once and for all drive an Evolution.

Back to the new exterior. I don't know if Mitsubishi intended for the new Evolution to look so much like the non-turbo Lancer but they're almost identical. With the previous generation of Lancer's and Evolutions, you could see the econobox base Lancer lurking under the Evolutions skin but there was never any mistaking a base Lancer for an Evolution. That's not the case now. Aside from a slightly different nose and the subtlely flared fenders on the Evolution, a Lancer GTS and Evo look almost identical. I wouldn't be surprised if alot of people mistake the GTS for an Evo once Evo's really hit the streets in the summer of 08.

In short though, a big round of applause should go to Mitsubishi for evolving the Lancer to this new modern design in both Lancer and Evolution trims. Now if Mitsubishi could only keep the price of the Evolution down closer to the $29-31,000 dollar price range, it would be an even bigger hit.

I don't know about the new evo x looking better than the ix. You're probably thinking i'm crazy, but i am confident in what im saying. i have a 2006 tarmac black pearl mr and it is just plain beautiful. I know that it shares looks with the regular lancer, but when you get up close and personal..it is a totally different car. the performance is one thing and the looks it has is another aspect. the evo ix is more hardcore, more raw, more breath taking, and it is pound for pound more of a driver's car...period.

The 5-door is what attracted me. I can have a fast utility vehicle. The EVO X has better AWD and transmission though. If only the 2008 EVO X is available in a 5-door like this one http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=124149#3
I will get the EVO instead of the STI.
BTW EVO X 0-60 time is slower than 2008 WRX STI's and EVO IX, WTF!!
