#130 of 139 Rogue vs. Murano by jeep53

Hi. I've been doing some research online about the Nissan Rogue and Murano. I like the Murano a little better style wise, even though they are similar. I know the Rogue is a lot less money than the Murano. However, I would be looking at a 2008 loaded Rogue versus a 2007 loaded Murano. The '07 Murano is around $2,000 more than the '98 Rogue. The Murano is a bigger SUV with more power. If anyone out there has an opinions on which way they would go, I would love to hear from you. It's almost a toss up at this point for me. From what I've seen, the only thing the '07 Murano SL didn't offer at that time was bluetooth, which I have now on my other car and love. The '08 Rogue offers it on their top model. I appreciate any comments. Thanks!!!

What are you using the cars for? Commuting? Large or small family? Do a lot of high-speed highway driving or more in-town scooting around?

I would be using the car mainly for going back and forth to work and also on weekend trips. I know the Murano is bigger than the Rogue. Either one would be fine size wise. I like the looks of both, but I give the edge to the Murano. However, I'm not sure if it's worth the extra money. Thanks for your reply. Any other input you have would be appreciated.

Check out the gas mileage differential - believe it is rather substantial in favor of the Rogue. BTW, have you checked out the insurance rates?

I love the CVT on my '08 Altima and am seriously considering a Rogue.....

Your're right about the Rogue having better gas mileage. I haven't checked the insurance out yet. I would probably look for a 2008 SL model if I can find one for around $21,000 or so. Thanks again for your replies. Any other info would be appreciated!!

If you do a lot of highway running the extra power the V6 Murano will provide may be worth the mileage penalty to you. Test drive them both on the highway, and don't be afraid to give it the boot to pass, and see how each performs. Around town both will feel plenty quick, but on the highway, the Rogue may lack power noticeably compared to the bigger-engined Murano.

I've been doing a lot of reading on Edmunds and other sites comparing the Nissan Rogue to the Honda CR-V and Toyota Rav 4. Between the three cars, I like the look of the Rogue. There seem to be advantages and disavantages between all three. I'm leaning towards purchasing the Rogue in the near future. I haven't had any problems with any of my Nissans. If there is anyone out there who bought a Rogue, I would love to hear from you about the pros and cons. I appreciate any input. Thanks!!

Before you make any kind of decision, test drive both, preferably one after the other. We did a few weeks ago, and if you drive the Rogue and CR-V back to back, you will notice how much cruder and less refined Rogue is. CR-V is akin to a luxury vehicle, while Rogue clearly shows its economy base car roots.

With some negotiations, you may be able to erase the price differential between the Rogue and the CR-V.

We drove Rogue 360 and CR-V EX, both in AWD trim.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. My driving will be mixed pretty much. However, quite a bit of highway driving, too. I would think the Murano would be more comfortable but I really don't know that. But better gas mileage the Rogue gets is a big plus, too. I guess I will have to test drive both and see if the extra money is worth it on the Murano. Comfort is a big thing with me, too, on long trips.
Right now I have an '08 Sentra SL fully loaded which has been a nice car. No problems in the two plus years I've had it. I just miss the SUV I used to have for hauling things and more space in general. My lease will be up in about 8 months so I have some time yet. Thanks again.

#139 of 139 2011 Nissan Rogue SL by jeep53

Well, after a lot of researching online and test driving a few SUV's, we finally purchased a 2011 Nissan Rogue SL with the premium package. We've only had it a few days so I realize posting a review now is a little premature. But I just wanted to mention a few things about the Rogue. I understand they call it a compact SUV but as far as I'm concerned i,t looks and drives like a midsize SUV. I initially wanted to buy the Murano but I didn't feel the extra $8,000 or so was worth it. We got a loaded SL with leather, heated seats, sunroof, Bose radio, bluetooth, rearview camera, navigation, AWD. I don't know what else we could want in a car. This SUV drives smooth on any road conditions. If you aren't used to the CVT engine, it will take a little time to get used to it. We traded our '08 Sentra which had the CVT, so we were familiar with it. Overall, for the money (even though the top of the line Rogue is around $29,000) I feel I picked the right SUV. It looks like a much more expensive SUV.
So if you are looking at a Rav4 or a Honda CRV, I would suggest test driving the Rogue first. I don't think you will reget it. The only cons I have are the cargo space could be a little larger. Also, I think they could have made the rear passenger leg room a little larger. Other than those two things, I can't think of anything else at this time. Thanks for reading this post!
