I know I see right about 1750 RPM at 70 MPH and very close to 2000 at 80. Does this equate with the ratios, give the 18inch 50 series tires? I hope so.

Calculates to ~1800 rpm 70 mph, so it is close.

RPM = Speed (mph) * 336 * Overall Drive Ratio/Wheel Diameter (in)

Overall Drive Ratio = Axle Ratio (2.77 in XR) * Gear Ratio (0.74 in sixth)

Cool formula.
I used 27.5 in for the tire diameter, what I measured.
Ran the formula with that figure for 80 MPH and got 2003 RPM.
Can't get much closer than that even if I had a digital tach

Thanks for the formula. Looks like one I used a couple of decades ago ))

Well, we can just wait for some upcoming comparison tests from Edmunds and others to see who's reasoning is more sound. Patience.

Edmunds latest comparison test: Malibu (a very close cousin of the Aura with the same powertrain) 0-60 6.6 sec. Accord V6 - 7.0.

Same publication
Same comparison test
Game over

I have never floored the accelerator on my car, from a dry stop. Why would I need to do that? What makes 0-60 times important in this comparison? How many midsize sedan shoppers know the 0-60 times of the cars they are looking at? My guess, less than 10%.

You missed the point. I kept getting told over and over again that the Aura(Malibu) aren't necessarily faster than the Accord because they weren't tested on the same day in the same comparison test. Well, now we have a comparison test that clearly shows the Accord to be slower.

I guess the fact that the Malibu finished 3rd in the comparison escaped your keen eye.

In the Motor Trend side by side of 4 cars, including the Malibu, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry, and Accord V6 the Accord was quicker or the same, yet it finished 3rd and the Malibu finished 2nd to the Camry 1st. After all their fussing and voting that is.

So if you don't like the results form one companies test, just go find another one you can agree with. Or go drive the cars yourself, kick the tire and check the prices.

I didn't agree with some of the comments in the Car and Driver road test of the Aura XR, but I did agree with Road and Tracks test results and comments. After I drove the XR that is.

I didn't care for the 07 Accord, but would probably love the 08, so a few changes can make a big difference in perceived performance and actual performance. If you like it buy it.

Did you notice this quote from that motor trend comparison?

"Because of Honda's renown for resale and reliability, three of the four judges noted they'd still buy the Accord over the second-place finisher (Malibu). But, unfortunately for Honda, we can't score based on intangibles."

I think this statement means more than the actual numbers.

I don't really give a hoot what the Motor Trend writers have to say. I read Road and Track. They haven't done a side by side of these two cars, but they got the best results of ANY and ALL road tests of the Aura XR.
So it comes in first in the side by side test with the Accord V-6 auto, because they haven't tested the sedan yet.
So you like part of the Edmunds test and part of the Motor Trend test and part of the Car and Driver test. But have you done the test for yourself?

I may be looking for a new car in 2013, so if the Aura survives that long, we'll see. Considering the woeful sales numbers, it may not last that long.
