Replying to: robertsmx (Nov 25, 2007 9:11 pm) Only if they said that because it was 9 it is not as good as another brand that was a 6, and did it on more than one occasion. You don't see that giving incorrect data and basing an opinion on that incorrect information sort of makes the opinion a poor one? Way to many people take everything they say as gospel, because they don't know how to do their own research or just don't want to take the time. I am not saying the information about any car in this discussion has been inaccurately reported or used by Consumer Reports or that their opinion about any of the cars is based on such information. I said They have done it is the past and I found their opinions biased and inaccurate because of it. All you CR lovers out their can believe everything they write if you want to, I really don't care. If you don't like my opinion, that is too bad. Now lets move on because I don't want to get into a personal confrontation with anyone. It isn't what these forums are for, so lets keep it about the cars, not the reporters or each other.

One, the sixth gear in Aura is extraordinarily tall. OTOH, the fifth is reasonably spaced so it is too short to be a second fuel efficient gear. Outside of cruising speeds on level ground, the car is likely to use the fifth more than the sixth (the same problem that exists in Mercedes' 7-speed auto, the seventh is too tall to be useful for extended period, but in that case, the sixth is actually very close). This doesn't sound like a recipe for good around town fuel economy (or even on hilly areas). Accord's third (the high speed passing gear for most part) is virtually identical to Aura's third. So, if both cars were cruising down the highway, and had to make a pass, Aura will have to go down three gears to be as effective in passing as the Accord will be going down two. Also note, Accord's fifth provides similar thrust as Aura's fifth, but it can afford to be that short because it is operating in four cylinder mode when cruising at moderate speeds. The thrust impact will show up only when driver accelerates.

It was right at 69 MPH but 68 is probably when it hit and I didn't feel it till 69. This was so close to 7000 rpm that I could not tell if it was over or under by 100 RPM or so. My method for using the gears on the road is at freeway speeds coming to a grade that starts to slow the car even a little, I drop to 5th. This seems to help maintain the speed and, I think the best economy. Really steep grades may cause me to drop to 4th, and I have not found a grade that required a lower gear to maintain 70 MPH. |

Replying to: elroy5 (Nov 25, 2007 2:54 pm) This comment made me think, Several comments have stated that performance is not what Honda, Accord, (family) sedans are about. If Honda/Accord owners aren't into the performance, horse power, an cornering, WHY DID HONDA RE TUNE THEIR V6 FROM 240 HP TO 268 HP, AND PUT IT NEAR THE TOP OF THE FAMILY SEDAN CLASS FOR HORSE POWER? Some have said that the HP of the Honda I-4 is all that is needed, yet Honda has increased that engines power from 166 to 190 this year. These are very significant increases in HP are they not? Looks to me like Honda sedan owners have asked for more HP which can only mean most want better performance, but I could be wrong again. So tell me again why Honda Family Sedan owners aren't interested in performance.
