Are these cars being purchased for performance competition? You may be one of the very few who sees these numbers as all important in this segment.

One of my other cars is a Cadillac sedan De Ville. How can I refute performance numbers in CR's report, they don't state any. I have no way of knowing what tests, if any they did related to speed. I did not dispute anything reported in the CR road test of the Aura, or the Accord for that matter. Like CR you are misstating the facts and statistics. To the point, as I have stated before the Honda Accord is a very fine automobile. The '08 Accord is the best sedan CR has ever reported on and must be awarded the COTY by every organization that gives the award, like MT. Performance, Comfort, Handling, and safety are all very important to me. Now you know.

In any event, I find it very difficult to believe that they would give a car a lower grade because of that. I heard of some elaborate schemes to discredit the way Consumer Reports road tests its vehicles but it boils down to psycho babble nonsense in my opinion. Having the vehicle for months and thousands of miles reveals strengths and weaknesses of such vehicle which counts for a lot more. That said, the new Accord has to be the best car in the mid sized family sedans for 2008 (as long as performance is not an issue) and deserves COTY hands down. As if performance was an issue then Malibu would be the superior car. Give me a break. Can you get the Malibu with a manual transmission? Once the new TL comes out I have a suspicion you'll be able to get the sedan in the same set up as the Accord V6 manual coupe. At that point it'll be in the company of the Mazda 6. I don't see the Accord winning the COTY award. If Honda would come out with an Accord that's not regarded as the best or among the best in its class it would be considered a failure. I can see the CTS winning the COTY award however because it made the biggest improvement.

I do think they're both good sources of information that should be applied to your own values. Meaning that though car A is rated better than car B by one of them you personally may regard car B as the best because of your own priorities in a car. |
