R&T has the Aura XR at 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and C&D had it a 6.4 while Saturn got 6.5. For example, G force ratings come from different diameter circles which give different results. Tire pressures alone can make a 0.5 G difference on the same skid pad on the same day on the same car.

Do you really think "Midsize Sedans" should be graded on .5 G differences, and .4 second differences in performance? Is that really so important? Are these cars being purchased for performance competition? You may be one of the very few who sees these numbers as all important in this segment.

Phaetondriver really didn't say that... they were using that as an example I believe. Maybe I misinterpreted it?

It is impossible to escape the fact that Phaetondriver thinks "Performance" numbers should be the most important (be all, end all) aspect, when comparing midsize sedans. Or have you missed the last 5 or more pages of this thread? Is it pure coincidence that these are the numbers he disputes when referring to CR? I think not. Does he dispute legroom numbers? or trunk space numbers? interior volume?

That would be robertsmx, a Honda fan, who disputed trunk volume measurements way back in post #70.

First of all it started with performance of the Accord being as good or better than the Aura XR. That was before I said anything.
I am over 60 years old stand over 6 feet tall, so what makes you think for one second I don't think comfort is important?
One of my other cars is a Cadillac sedan De Ville.
How can I refute performance numbers in CR's report, they don't state any. I have no way of knowing what tests, if any they did related to speed. I did not dispute anything reported in the CR road test of the Aura, or the Accord for that matter.
Like CR you are misstating the facts and statistics.

To the point, as I have stated before the Honda Accord is a very fine automobile. The '08 Accord is the best sedan CR has ever reported on and must be awarded the COTY by every organization that gives the award, like MT.
Performance, Comfort, Handling, and safety are all very important to me.

Now you know.

but if all but 1 say the wheelbase is 110 inches and the 1 say it is 112 inches, and they grade that car lower because they said it was 112 inches that is not easy to overlook.

So they made a mistake with the wheelbase and I'm sure that kind of stuff does not happen a lot. They're far from alone in such miscues. In any event, I find it very difficult to believe that they would give a car a lower grade because of that.

I heard of some elaborate schemes to discredit the way Consumer Reports road tests its vehicles but it boils down to psycho babble nonsense in my opinion. Having the vehicle for months and thousands of miles reveals strengths and weaknesses of such vehicle which counts for a lot more.

That said, the new Accord has to be the best car in the mid sized family sedans for 2008 (as long as performance is not an issue) and deserves COTY hands down.

As if performance was an issue then Malibu would be the superior car. Give me a break. Can you get the Malibu with a manual transmission? Once the new TL comes out I have a suspicion you'll be able to get the sedan in the same set up as the Accord V6 manual coupe. At that point it'll be in the company of the Mazda 6.

I don't see the Accord winning the COTY award. If Honda would come out with an Accord that's not regarded as the best or among the best in its class it would be considered a failure. I can see the CTS winning the COTY award however because it made the biggest improvement.

Because, til now, you have not mentioned any of these "so called" interests.

I don't know of any reporting CR has done on the 08 Accord. Consumer Reports and Consumer Guide are two entirely different organizations.

I do think they're both good sources of information that should be applied to your own values. Meaning that though car A is rated better than car B by one of them you personally may regard car B as the best because of your own priorities in a car.
