I passed by the local honda dealer today after hours and spotted two 2008 Accords (the newly redesigned ones). I was able to sit in one of them as it was unlocked. It was a stripped down model that stickered at $22,100 and had a 4-cyl. and cloth. I was underwhelmed. The dashboard layout was not as nice as the Aura's and the entire car did not feel as 'substantial'. The other one stickered around $28,700 (well above a decked-out XR, especially with the rebates) and still had just a 4-banger, but did have leather and a navigation system. Although obviously I did not drive the Accord, I came away from the experience glad I went with the Aura. It just seems like more car for less money.

What I love is passing tractor trailer trucks on a two lane. It pulls from 60 to 100 by the time I have cleared the cab (about 7 seconds). Can your Accord do that? I think not. Sorry you didn't have as great a test drive as I did. Once I drove it and saw the price I had to take it home. I have over 12000 miles on it now and love it even more than ever. Saturns aren't for everyone, and I am sure you are/will be happy with you accord.

Then again, BMW has never built a V6 so I guess the point is moot. As for comparing any V6 (from Acura, Saturn or anybody else for that matter) to a BMW I6 for smoothness, don't be silly; no V6 in history is as smooth as even a coarse I6. Why? Well, V6s by the nature of the beast are inherently unbalanced, regardless of the degree of the vee. Yes, balance shafts and isolation damping engine mounts can help, but they're still shakers at heart. Engines built in the I6 configuration are naturally in perfect balanced for all rotational and vibrational forces. Best Regards, Shipo

The Aura's ride and handling are definitely in the same league as the Accord as noted by many test drive reviews and owners who have driven both cars. If you werent impressed I would say its likely because it was a Saturn and you were leaning towards the Honda anyway. |

| Some of it is simply a matter of personal taste. Both are great cars. I chose the 07 Aura XR partly because of the $2500 rebate I received. A similarly equipped Accord would have been considerably more money. You know the dealers aren't going to budge on such a new model. For the record, my wife has a 2003 Honda Odyssey that (knock on wood) has given us no problems and is a very nice vehicle. | |
The comment about the Aura's 'vinyl-like' leather sparked my interest. So I went to the Honda dealer today and sat in a 2008 Accord with leather. To be honest, it was only marginally better than Saturn's. You wouldn't mistake either them for the rich, soft leather in, say, a Mercedes.
