What is this discussion about? Honda Fit, Hatchback

First Drive: 2009 Honda Fit - Inside the Fit's cabin, it's apparent that quality levels are up, with improved plastics, more supportive seats and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Meanwhile, a new dashboard layout looks softer, reflecting a special effort by stylists to appeal to women. (more)

2009 Honda Fit Sport Full Test - Bottom Line: If only every sequel were so good. It's as if Honda used our long-term test blog about the 2007 Fit as a road map for the 2009 model's improvements. (more)

Thanks for the reply! It just struck me as odd that my new '09 Fit has more standard features than any other car in it's class and most compacts as well but didn't have a passenger side lock. I've never seen a car with power locks that didn't have both before...

You should change the oil when the minder tells you to change it. I wait until it's down to 5%; it will start reminding you to change the oil when there's 15% oil life left. On the 2007 Fit I previously owned, that was approximately 6,900 miles per each oil change (and by the end, I had over 28K miles). I expect my 2009 Base Manual Fit will be similar.

I took delivery of my 09 Milano Red Fit Sport AT this afternoon after waiting about a month. Less than 100 miles, so only initial impressions for now. I'd been dealing with sales guy over the phone .... never had met him.... and I'd never driven or even sat in a Fit before .... but I knew it was the car I wanted. He's assured me that there was plenty of room for me in the driver's seat when I told him I was 6'3" and 280 lbs. when we talked on the phone. He said he fit fine in the seat and he was bigger than me. I found out this afternoon that he certainly was ... 6'4" and pushing 400 lbs! When we went for the test drive, he got in the back seat and pointed out that he was comfortable and not cramped for room ... amazing ... he did look comfortable back there! I love the open feeling inside the car... plenty of shoulder room and head room. The view through all the glass is great! That big windshield makes it seem like I'm driving into a big screen TV! I like the blue lighting on the dash/instruments more than I thought I would. Almost looks like 3d behind/around the speedometer. My iPod never sounded better .. plug and play .. manual says Fit will charge iPod while accessories are on due to key position or the car is running. Love the low rpms! At 55 mph it's around 2k rpm ... 65 mph looks like 2250 rpms. Ride is a little stiffer than I expected, but then again, it is the sport model.... only noticeable on road with poor surface. The magic seats are indeed magic .. the disappear with ease. The dash is more intuitive than I thought it would be .... everything made sense after only a short while. Mirrors on both visors .... upper and lower glove compartments.... power outside mirrors .... great visibility out the back through the hatch glass .. .seems like it comes down lower than usual and gives a great look at what's behind (really noticed the view when I big Ford F150 w/light on got on my rear bumper and thought I wasn't going fast enough!). I resisted all the accessories (mats, bumper appliqué, under coating, etc.) and all the extended warranties.... saving thousands of $$$$! Interesting that they told me that if I bought the extended warranty (6 yrs/100k miles for $1600+) and didn't use it .... they'd refund all my $$$ except for $50. When he asked me how I could turn down a deal like that, I told him I figured I'd put that same amount of $$$ in the stock market while it's down and would probably be able to buy a new 2015 Fit when the market came back to live in 6 yrs!

Thanks to everyone for sharing and help me get educated before I bought ... now I'm curious about the proper way to break it in and ........ when to change the oil for the first time. It's going to be hard to break old habits and not change it at first 500 miles!

PS: Best part is that the wife has not made a single negative comment .. .but lots praise for the car. Yes ... she drove it to town tonight (12 miles ... plenty of curves) .. she loved it. Even said it was the perfect car for me!

Hello,

Check out the thread I started under widetrack2000 earlier this week for several bloggers thoughts regarding your oil change question.

Enjoy your new Fit!

200k miles? On a Honda? HaHa! What a Joke! My wifes Honda Odyssey has had two transmission rebuilds in the first 20k miles. Not to mention the DVD player skips, dash rattles, rotors replaced, and the sliding door fell off its track. You'll be lucky to hit the 50k mile mark before that thing rattles itself to pieces. I'll give it 50k miles or 3 years. Whatever comes first. That is if you don't kill yourself waiting for the fools at the Honda dealer to fix it correctly.

My brother owns a Civic with 253x and the only money he's ever put into it was for routine maintence items like a new clutch, brakes, tires etc. and that's on a 15 year old car so it's not all Honda's.

FYI--

Someone asked a while back if anyone was selling seat covers for the '09 Fit yet and I found a company on Ebay that sells them in a variety of colors but for some reason my browser won't allow me to post their link on this forum so if your interested in that information, shoot me an e-mail to widetrack2000hotmail.com and I'll send you that link.

Maybe it's nature's way of telling you to move out of the minivan into something more stylish, perhaps a Fit. I traded in an old Civic EX coupe with 120,000 miles on it; the dealer gave me $3800 toward my '02 Accord coupe. The only problem I've had with these Hondas is a lightbulb going out on the dashboard. My '09 Fit Sport AT will not disappoint. Choose love instead of hate....
