First Drive: 2009 Honda Fit - Inside the Fit's cabin, it's apparent that quality levels are up, with improved plastics, more supportive seats and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Meanwhile, a new dashboard layout looks softer, reflecting a special effort by stylists to appeal to women. (more)
2009 Honda Fit Sport Full Test - Bottom Line: If only every sequel were so good. It's as if Honda used our long-term test blog about the 2007 Fit as a road map for the 2009 model's improvements. (more)

From freep.com: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080620/BUSINESS01/806200349/10- 14/BUSINESS01 Honda is also having a hard time producing enough Fits. The tiny Fit, which gets 34 miles per gallon on the highway, sells for a suggested retail price of about $14,000. "We are the largest Honda store in Michigan and we have about three Fits in stock," Friday said. Last year, Honda allocated about 40,000 Fits for sale in the United States. At the beginning of the year, Honda decided to double that supply. "We thought 75,000 to 80,000 would be the right number" for the year, Mendel said. But Honda sold 8,205 Fits in May. "It looks like ... we are gong to be short." I wonder what production numbers they are planning for the 2009. |

I just checked one of the dealers near me and they have 17 2008 fits in stock. http://www.hondaofkingston.com/New-Inventory.aspx#sortdirection=False&makeid=nul- l¤tpage=1&totalrecords=17&sortitem=0&ajax_t=1214049479062&cultureinfostyle- derived=null&page=new-inventory&modelyearid=null&modelid=Fit&model=Fit&make=null- &pagesize=25&hyperlinkargument=page&virtualpageindex=0&modelyear=null&numberofvi- siblepages=10 I'm hoping they have as many or more 09's when they come out. (what I'm waiting for) I subscribe to Google Alerts for "2009 honda fit" and earlier this week there was an article from I believe the same dealership as in the article offered by Toronado. In it the dealer stated that he expected increased production for the 09 model. Not the shortage as their having with the 08. Sorry, don't have the link. |

I just spoke to someone at a dealership in Miami regarding preordering, and he said they should be getting the '09 Fits in August/September... He'll be calling me on Monday once he finds out about the order for the dealership. Anyone else getting dates earlier than Oct (what I've read here)? I'm curious to know what everyone's being told. |

We're in the market (have three 01s with a total of 500k miles), wifey is looking for work, and interviewing Monday for a job 70 miles away. Could also go with an xD. Have tested one, seemed smaller than my friend's 08 Fit. Mostly to be used for one or two passengers (have a Sienna for crowds, bulky stuff, light towing) so size doesn't matter much. The local Toyota dealer is good (probably better than the Honda dealer) and I know them. Don't care about nav (would rather buy portable that can be used in multiple vehicles and is cheaper), but don't like not having a spare. Black is the safest interior color as it goes with anything and doesn't distract the driver like faux aluminum (the worst). Going with one color makes manufacturing simplier/cheaper. Has anyone studied how body color affects heat build up? Would think that lots of other factors (amount of window glass area, percentage of window glass that is tinted, use of sunshade, orientation of the car to the sun, etc.) would all have just as large an effect than interior color. Sun/moom/sky roofs are a practical compromize for a convertible, which typically raise the price $10k. My current ride came with one, but I almost never use it. Worry about it leaking. Opens inside the roof, so lost headroom and insulation (rain makes tons of noise as it hits the "tin roof"). Shade open removes any insulation above and creates glare across my glasses. Cracked open is noisy and only provides decent comfort at say 52 - 57 degrees. Fully open is noisier and sun burns my baldness. Old fart rant off.

According to this article: click here. It mentioned 09 milage and price. I wonder if it's a typo because they seem the same as current Fit (if base price includes destination charge). I have the feeling that even with increase production numbers, there will still be a shortage here. They need to produce the Fits here in the North America, like the Civic, which has no trouble at all meeting demands. |
