What is this discussion about? Honda Fit, Hatchback

First Drive: 2009 Honda Fit - Inside the Fit's cabin, it's apparent that quality levels are up, with improved plastics, more supportive seats and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Meanwhile, a new dashboard layout looks softer, reflecting a special effort by stylists to appeal to women. (more)

2009 Honda Fit Sport Full Test - Bottom Line: If only every sequel were so good. It's as if Honda used our long-term test blog about the 2007 Fit as a road map for the 2009 model's improvements. (more)

I wouldn't count on it. Honda has all but made it official that they are pushing hybrids for small cars and diesels for large cars/trucks.

I'm guessing they measured the CuFt as the space under the cargo cover, while in America we measure all the way to the ceiling.

honda and toyota have been neck in neck with interior quality. so its a moot point.

even the current xd doesn't handle as well as the honda fit. the new one will raise the bar further. It matters not what you 'think' looks bigger or what you 'think' drives just as well. Drive them yourself.

not to mention that because of the xd's extra heft it NEEDS the engine it has, otherwise, it would be horrible.

If you have the money, you buy the performance cars.

and if you don't? do you consider your gli a 'real' performance car? its actually just a hopped up jetta, which in itself, is just an entry level sedan (albeit a nice one.)

One could argue that a true performance car would be over 50k, and be rwd!

Okay, who buys a Fit or a Scion XD for fun?

Scion thinks they do, otherwise, why sell 20 inch rims for you cars? Wait. I guess you are right. Scion has no intention of real performance. Its just factory rice that they are after.

People buy different cars for different reasons, and MOST people in the US didn't buy the fit for racing...but that doesn't change the fact that honda gave it an excellent steering feel, and very nimble handling. (it actually slaloms FASTER than YOUR gli. )

These are both economy cars people

no one is disputing this...

I don't buy a Fit because I love to race. Get real.

but if you knew ANYTHING about performance compacts, which i assume you do since you have a gli, you would know that the fit has the same power to weight ratio as the old civic hatchbacks....one of the most sought cars for aftermarket performance. Not a fart can muffler, no. I'm talking REAL, smokes-cars-costing-thousands-more performance.

Lots of tuners have taken to the fit, and have even accomplished shoving the TSX motor into it. And there are various race teams that actually do have a fit on their roster as time attack vehicles. Its not relative to the subject, but yeah, some people do race the fit.

Driving fun? Okay, who buys a Fit or a Scion XD for fun?

In three letters: C, R, and X.

Driving fun doesn't require a race track or pink slips at a stop light.

First off...let's call this one for what it truly is: Affordable, Economic, transportation. Any mention of performance begs the question: Against what? The neighbor kid's tricycle?

Affordable, Economic, transportation...you've just described a Yaris!

The Fit is a fun to drive small car with great handling, lots of interior space for it's exterior size and all of the above you mentioned.

A good handling, fun to drive car doesn't need a lot of straight line performance.

Looks ok but shouldn't you at least address the mileages of this and other "economy vehicles". After all, the thinking behind them is to get better mileages, not just spend money.

I think that the "economy" in economy vehicles has to do more with price than MPG.
