What is this discussion about? Honda Fit, Hatchback

First Drive: 2009 Honda Fit - Inside the Fit's cabin, it's apparent that quality levels are up, with improved plastics, more supportive seats and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Meanwhile, a new dashboard layout looks softer, reflecting a special effort by stylists to appeal to women. (more)

2009 Honda Fit Sport Full Test - Bottom Line: If only every sequel were so good. It's as if Honda used our long-term test blog about the 2007 Fit as a road map for the 2009 model's improvements. (more)

Mcmanus, thanks for the reply... I didn't think of that scenario. Been a long time since I lived somewhere with that much snowfall. When I last lived in Colorado, I had a 280Z... terrible in the snow, but fun to do donuts in parking lots.

Okay, hijack over... back to the Fit.

'09 fuel economy by upstatedoc

I still haven't been able to locate the fuel economy ratings for the '09 Fit. Being a long time honda fan, history has shown that a "redesign" usually doesn't mean worse fuel economy, however the '09 will have larger, wide tires and a more powerful engine.

The EPA FE numbers for the 2009 Fit likely won't be published until we get much closer to availability at dealers, which is supposed to be this fall.

On the basis of the comparable trim level in the two generations, the new JDM Fit is rated to have a 2% better fuel efficiency than the previous gen, which is another way of saying that it is basically unchaged. That's not a bad deal because the new gen has sized up a bit.

We will have to see about the North American Fit's mileage rating, though.

Thanks for the link, it's kind of scary navigating a website written in japanese. I hope I don't subscribe to something by mistake.

I don't know if anyone has speculated about pricing for the '09's. An '08 Fit Sport w/ auto will run you $16,700 inluding destination.

I'm thinking an '09 Fit Sport auto w/ the optional voice recognition Navi will run about $1500 more, or around $18,200. Does that sound about right?

MPG ? by willaby

Well, edmunds tells us the number of cupholders, but not the mpg? The current Fit doesn't offer the best mileage so it would be good to get an idea of what Honda will do to improve it in '09.

The current Fit can get a good mileage, although it is rather sensitive to driving variables than many other cars. My wife has been getting an average of 32 MPG over 33,000 miles, and that is cleanly split between city and highway. On occasion, I drive her Fit, and for whatever the reason, my mileage is about 10% higher than that, driving in the virtually same conditions, which is significant (about 3 MPG). While in different cars I tend to get a better mileage than my wife, in our experience the variance by driver is greater for the Fit than other cars we have owned.

From what I've read, there is only ONE (new) option on the '09 FIT Sport...that's a CVT automatic transmission. Navigation will be standard. The so-called "Magic Seat" will be renamed (I forget the new name) and ALL seats will fold flat making the entire interior a bed. It's called the "Refresh" mode. Oh, to be 18 again.

I had a CVT auto trans on my '04 Civic Hybrid. That tran was sweeeeet. The hybrid was not. Driving like a 90-year-old librarian just to eek out top MPG is not my idea of enjoyable driving.

My fossil-fuel '06 Civic gets only 3 MPG less than the over-rated, tree-hugging hybrid.

I can't imagine Honda selling too many more '08 FITs with word on the '09 spreading. I was about to take delivery last week on a Blackberry Pearl Sport, heard about the '09 improvements and killed the deal. My dealer wasn't too upset; I'm also driving the Civic and a Ridgeline.

I'll gladly wait until October to get the (IMHO) best FIT Sport.

Just my $.02

Oh, I forgot to mention...the '09 FIT will have -no- spare tire...to make more room in the hatch. Not sure I'm too thrilled with that idea.
