I've read an article written by a technician with experience in that field that K&N filters are not good for engines because they deposit trace of oil in intake manifolds (because K&N filters are oiled). It is better to decrease air filter replacements periods with regular OEM or aftermarket filters say from 10,000 to 5,000 miles periods - or shorter, depending on climate and environment, where you mostly drive. Air filters replacements are as important as oil and oil filter replacements. For oil, I use Mobil 1 extended service synthetic oil.

Unless you live in a dusty climate, changing your air filter more than once every 30k miles or so is going to be a waste of money.

LX automatic shifting by rbuckley

I have a 2009 civic LX with only 1000 miles on it and when I slow to a normal stop the transmission "thumps" into first gear and on occasion lurches forward slightly.I took it back to the dealer and he says this "normal" for the electronic transmission. Has anyone experienced the same thing and if so how did you fix it or is this really "normal".I am a bit skeptical.

Hmmm - not sure if that would be considered "normal". I have 2009 EX-L Civic and I don't have those symptoms. I am not an expert in that field but it would not hurt to get a "second" opining, perhaps from a reputable transmission shop (other than the selling dealer even though the car is still under warranty).
Or, if you live in town, where there is more than one Honda dealer, have it checked at a different dealership than where you originally bought the car.
You can also call your regional Honda Tech. Center - they have factory techs that travel from dealer to dealer and help the franchise dealers with problems that they cannot properly diagnosed themselves. Sometimes (I have that done with Range Rover a few years back) the factory tech. rep will meet you at a designated dealership and looks at the problem himself.
I would also check the transmission fluid level (while the car is running obviously) and also, if it looks normal and is not "foamy or bubbly".

If you are near a Civic dealer, ask to drive a different Civic with an automatic (new or used, shouldn't matter) and see if your car stands out as being more rough. Just a thought.

Good luck.

2009 Civic offers by mazdanut

I looked at a 2009 Civic LX-S yesterday. I got a quote that seemed very reasonable. When I then inquired about the current financing specials, 1.9 for 24 - 36 months and 2.9 for 60 months I was told that if I wanted to take advantage of this offer the price would be $750.00 more as Honda was offering $750 dealer cash OR the finance specials. This sounded reasonable and I assumed I had missed this when I looked at the specials available on Honda's site. When I got home and looked though I could find nothing about this.

Does this seem like an honest omission on the dealer's part or a price bait and switch?

TIA

This sounds "fishy"to me. If they want 750 more and they get "dealer cash" 750 - that would be a wash out. What are they talking about?
You can find official Honda's financing special offers on their website - there is no such things (about $ 750) mentioned there. The interest rate that you have mentioned is correct. I wouldn't pay the extra 750 that they are asking.
Better yet, get your own financing. Best source would be a credit union car loan. If you are not a member, you can always join one. Credit unions have the best financing deals these days, far better than any banks and they want your "local" business.

I also have a very new 09LX, and it has ~1,500 miles on it. I notice something similar-when I am coasting and not applying the gas, the car will down-shift to first gear. I think this is the i-VTEC (intelligent vtec) working...it seems as if this would help with breaks. Downshifting seems to slow the car down for me so I don't have to break as much as I normally would. Does this sound similar to your car?

What do you mean, lurching forward? As in, when you're applying the brakes the car lurches forward, or after you've stopped?

Does your car seem to ever have difficulty with fast accelerations/going up hills? Those are some issues I've noticed- after slowing down for a red light (and I can really feel it downshifting), I often have to quickly speed up as the light has turned green. It feels as if the car really doesn't want to kick back up to a higher gear. Also on hills, the car seems a bit sluggish-this is probably just the 4 cylinder thing.

PS I have an automatic.

Hey, I'm tired today. Spent 3 hours at the DMV registering the new Honda.
