I recently bought a 2009 HOnda civic LX. The vin number on the vehicle starts as 19XFA...... My insurance agent says the VIN numbers of all hondas should have a H in the second space. My 2009 Civic makes a quiet knocking noise, its very fast and quiet and only is heard if the car is going above 55, and you take your foot off the accelerator and back on. Replying to: toofast2 (Aug 29, 2009 4:29 pm) sounds like spark knock. Have you gotten gas from a different station recently? like your last fill up? Sounds like the fuel is watered down and you're not getting the correct octane (87). Try getting gas at another station (a high-volume station) and it should go away. Replying to: sandg1 (May 22, 2009 5:13 pm) Yea, they said the same to me. they told me its because since the tires are low profiles, more water gets into it when it runs thru a puddle or so. It's not actual RUST, just surface corrosion.

Replying to: toofast2 (Aug 29, 2009 8:42 pm) um, you're buying 89 instead of 87? I've seen many cars (odd i know) using higher octane than what they call for and having issues. You should definitely try 87 octane and see if the problem still occurs. The dealer won't do much for you, sorry to say. Except to tell you to "try other gas". Just try the lower octane, and try something else instead of Shell. I know with my old civic using Shell caused a lot of rotten egg (sulfur) smell and lower mpg's. and you're welcome, glad to help out

Does anyone know how to remove/replace the lower instrument panel/cluster (the one with A/C outlets)? I know there is just one screw to remove under the dash but one has to remove a panel to access it - and then the whole thing just pulls out towards the steering wheel, right?

2 questions: 1. My mpg has been slowly rising since new; I have 11,000 mi and am getting 34 mpg (was about 30 when new). Honda service tech said the engines are very tight and take at least 10,000 mi to 'loosen up'. I drive mainly hwy, 65 mph, and try to keep my rpm at starts at 3000 or lower. What mpg can I expect and when will it happen? 2. Will a K&N air filter help? Anyone had good or bad experiences with this filter?   Thanks!
