My 09 EX has been experiencing the same thing intermittently and I took it into the dealer and had them check the battery, starter and alternator. All came back good, but at least now I have it on record that this problem exists just in case it turns out to be something major when the car is no longer under warranty. Of course my dealer couldn't replicate the problem either.

My 09 LX-S has this exact problem with hard starts (not starting at times, then starting on the second try). I've done the whole "priming" procedure described above, and it actually seems to alleviate the problem. But in 2009, why should a modern car need to have this procedure done in order to start the car after it's been sitting for a while? Is this procedure described anywhere in the owner's manual?

I've driven a Corolla, Camry, Eclipse, F-150, Ranger, CLK 430, and X5 over the years, and not one of them ever had starting issues unless the battery was shot...

Rear tires wear out too fast by accordhunter

I went to AboutAutomobile.com under the Consumer Complaint section, and found a lot of people having problem of excessive rear tires wear out caused by "rear fixed upper control arms"(they wear out in 10K miles range, faster than front tires). It's not only applied to this generation of Civic, but also for Accord, does anyone know whether Honda has fixed this issue for 2009 model? Thanks.

08 Civic vs 09 Civic - E brake question by frostbyte3964

I test drove an 08 Civic a while back and found the E brake very annoying. It would dig into my leg the way I drive. I ended up getting an 09 Corolla instead strictly due to that fact. I am now in the market for another and don't have access until December to test drive, but from the pictures online of the interior of the 09, it looks like the ebrake has the console surrounding it which I think is different than it was in 08 and might solve this problem.
Can anyone verify this change in the 09 model or is it the same?

All you need to do is check the Honda website; judging by the pictures, the parking brake handle design is unchanged.

Honda is currently refreshing their passenger cars every five years, so the Civic is not scheduled to receive a major redesign until 2011. If you remember, it just got updated for the mid-life change for 2009, and this style will continue for at least another year.

Mine's an 09 ex auto cpe, no nav, and it did the start on the second time thing a few times when i first got it. This problem stopped once i got through the tankful of rotgut swill gasoline that came with the car; a fill up at the shell station and none of that mis-behavior since. Really, it was no doubt winterized gas and now it's lots warmer, that may be a factor. As it's been a few weeks since your posting, what's the status now?

Meantime, i'm having a hard time finding things to be critical of with this car; it's a peach. fyi:
- wimpy exhaust note ( I don't favor noise, it's just that this sound is, well...)
- audio knobs have a slick surface
- no lumbar adjuster
- no auto-on headlights, just like my chevy has; i miss this most of all
- the wipers are way cool but i wonder what the refills will cost
- the trunk (is it a latch?) protrudes down and i bonk my forehead when reaching in there sometimes
