What is this discussion about? Lexus IS, Sedan

First Look: 2008 Lexus IS-F - Though Lexus is still coy with us about the specifications of the IS-F's V8 as the date of the car's introduction approaches, the engine is almost certainly based on the LS 600h L's 5.0-liter V8. (more)

New video clip of the IS-F but wait GS-F is on its way too... by cklho818

I have seen most video clips from the U.S. Lexus site and others in Youtube already. Want to share this one:

http://www.toyota.co.jp/jp/tech/new_cars/lexus/isf/car_300k.asx

I think that intended signature blue color is not a good match for the car. The white and the dark red look better. Toyota/ Lexus usually look better with lighter colors on them.

From the Japan Lexus site, the IS-F spec will have:

V8 5.0L NA Engine VVT-iE
423hp/6,600 rpm
8-speed SPDS (Sport Direct Shift) transmission
2 modes of VDIM -Normal- & -Sport- w/ VSC and Traction control

The IS-F is to compete with BMW M3 but Lexus is also developing the GS-F which will be powered by a V10 w/ a potential range of 450 - 500+ hp to compete with the M5.

from just reading the early reviews, this seems like a real mixed bag to me...great speed, good but firm handling, lexus interior...but also boy-racer styling and what seems to me to be a projected very high price. i don't think this car will compete well with the m3 unless it's a reasonable amount cheaper. also you have the audi s5 in the market now which is in the high $50's loaded and beautiful in its own right.

Do you have the skip pad and slalom stats for both IS-F and M3 from C&D as well? The reason I ask is because Bimmer fans will alsways come back with the "straight line performance is not important" and "The Bimmer will run circles around that Lexus" argument.

Guess what, if IS-F is equally impressive in those area as well we'll start hearing something like "it's not refine enough" and "it looks like a riced out IS350".

Please don't type in all caps. It looks like you are shouting at us and it makes your messages difficult to read.

Honestly,
I'm a little disappointed in the IS-F. Everything it aims to be, seems well executed. However, there are a few things that stand out in my mind:

- interior/exterior color combination is off for the intro model (too boy-racer as many have commented)
- Rear quad-stacked exhaust is fake and for looks only (not attached to the muffler)
- Why not be a 2-door?

For a company that usually is a stickler for detail and has a reason for everything, it's hard to find a compelling reason for some of these design cues.

has anyone read this.

help me understand a couple of things
-they state in the article that the RS4 weighs more and has less torque than the IS F, yet this car is faster than the IS-F, is this physically possible since both cars have similar HP?
-Lexus is historically known to be conservative with the 0-60 numbers, on their website, Lexus claims the IS-F does 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. The article states they clocked 4.7/4.8 seconds. Is this consistent with what we have known about the auto maker.

in the second article, edmunds tested the rs4, at te time, the rs4's 0-60 was 4.6 seconds, the quartile was north of 13 seconds. you will notice that the rs4, now that the is-f is around, is now faster, i.e. 4.2 seconds and around 12 seconds for the quarter mile. do cars suddenly improve in perfomance when a new competitor arrives.

the authour was frank from the begining, in that tthey liked the rs4, but can they give us information that makes sense, compare the is-f to the m3, thats more informative than ths rs4 comparison
