2008 Jeep Liberty First Drive - You'll have noticed that the Liberty is now a simpler box than it once was. All the bulbous or rounded features have been shaved and then all the edges have been chamfered off. This is to impart a look of honest capability or legendary Jeep cues or some such thing. The Liberty is now a more handsome, if less distinctive, thing than the outgoing model. And it is anything but cute. (more)

I know the outgoing Liberty wasn't "butch" enough, but I just did a lease return on my '05 Liberty Sport -- which was a great truck -- and didn't find anything in Jeep's lineup that was as distinctive or honest. Except for the disgraceful economy-car-dressed-up-as-a-truck Compass, and the authentic Wrangler, Jeep now has a bunch of me-too-mobiles. No more Porsche-like headlights, no more stylish interior, no more iconic and practical spare tire on the tailgate. Patriot, Liberty and Commander are basically identical. Is there a reason we needed another Dodge Nitro clone? I predict slower sales for the new Liberty. I know I'm done with Jeeps for a while. |

I test drove a 2008 Liberty, and having only seen pictures of one, I was disappointed when I got on the lot and found out it basically was a Nitro. I like the Nitro, but I was expecting the new Liberty to be as unique and individual as the first model style. I had a 2004 Liberty and loved it. When I drove the 2008 Liberty, it felt a little like I was riding on marshmallows, and I kept thinking to myself, why would I need something this big? I did not expect to feel this way -- I thought I'd love it the moment I got in it. However, I absolutely applaud the side airbags! And, going back to the lift gate instead of the swing open rear door like the old Liberty is another great improvement. I'm not ready to give up my current car (Subaru Forester) for a new Liberty because dealers are not getting any Sports on their lots with the two mandatory features I want -- Selec-Trac and a sunroof. I am not going to special order. But, there is plenty of time to see what comes in during the next few months. |

| It must be offered for the Liberty to stand out in the crowd. I do like the new styling | |
| Has anybody bought a 2008 jeep liberty? I am just wondering how it handles on the pavement. I won't be doing too much off road but I do like the style. I currently own a 1997 Jeep Laredo. Any information would be appreciated since I have the Liberty on my list of possibilities. | |
| THE 2006 Liberty has an electronic stability control system with roll mitigation, | |
