It seems like a lot of Honda sales people are trolling this forum and getting their feathers ruffled.

Are you implying that I sell hondas. I fix CVD(chemicial vapor deposition) systems. Haven't sold a car since 2000. A 1987 Dodge Caravan.

Why don't you just own up to the fact that my wifes HONDA is a P.O.S?

Send me the service reports and I'll cave!!

Evedently your service department won't admit it either.

Who's??

Seems like you're all brainwashed.

30K miles with no issues and low cost of ownership can do that to a person. Also a few alleged problems will make you completely biased against something.

He's still around, but mostly on the Midsize Sedan 2.0 and Honda Accord boards.

Let me add my two cents to this discussion . . . Within our family - myself, my two brothers, and my nephew - we've owned two Chrysler minivans and two Odysseys. Over 12 years and 162K miles, my 1994 Grand Caravan was reliable mechanically, and it still had the original automatic, never any problems with the transmission, or the 3.3L V6 for that matter. I did experience problems with some accessories, for example the display failed on the high-line Infinity receiver, and the two rear vent wing motors failed. My brother's Caravan was equally reliable over a long period of time.

Now the Honda - my youngest brother had a 2001 Ody, and my nephew just bought a 2007 Ody earlier this year. Both experienced problems with the transmission - my brother twice before he eventually traded it off, and my nephew's transmission failed prior to 6,000 miles on his 2007 Ody. Frankly, I don't understand why Honda has these problems with their automatics, including on the V6 Accords. Something is seriously wrong with the basic design.

My experience with our Grand Caravan wasn't impeccable, but at least we never had a major powertrain problem in over 12 years of ownership.

I love the lack of a key now - it's just a fob. I love the lighted cupholders and new design.

I think back up camera will be available on 2008 Odys, but it's built into the review mirror like GM is doing now, and if you wear reading glasses, it might be difficult to use (imagine having to cock your head up to ceiling to use?). I like how Chrysler built their's into the MyGig radio but you don't need to buy the Nav system to get it.

Like everything else, it all comes down to cost by siggie1

Just for fun I priced a maxed-out 2008 T&C using Edmunds TMV. The MSRP was over $41K, and the TMV price was the same. Pricing for the 2008 Ody is not out yet, but pricing from prior years indicates the MSRP of a 2008 Ody Touring will be about $39K, and TMV price will be about $37K. Web sites that let you get lease quotes indicate the residual for the T&C after 3 years will be about $20K. The residual for the Ody will be about $23K. That indicates that after 3 years the loss on the T&C will be $21K, the loss on the Ody will be $14K. Enough said. We'll be buying or leasing a 2008 Ody when they are offered for sale.

Sounds like you can use help on really knowing how to get a better deal before you jump to conclusions and do your homework instead of relying on TMV.

Is your math correct?:

"Just for fun I priced a maxed-out 2008 T&C using Edmunds TMV. The MSRP was over $41K, and the TMV price was the same. Wouldn't the loss on the Odd be $15K, not $14K? ($37K-$23K = $14K).

Will you really be replacing your vehicle in 3 yrs? Most people that buy cars, keep them much longer. What's your powertrain repair going to cost you after the Honda warranty is over?

You have no idea what the residual value will be on a totally redesigned 2008 T&C with a lifetime powertrain warranty for the original owner, will be. So it's not as accurate to use quotes on older, inferior models. I'm sure these vastly improved vehicles will hold their value better than previous yrs.

Also, you're not the best of shoppers, if you rely on TMV. If you actually went to the Chrsler "Build My Own" link, you would notice on the Limited which you are obviously pricing, shows a Total Discount/cash allowance of $1000 good until the end of this month. (a week or 2 ago, this was only $500). I rec'd an email from Chrysler that gave me an additional $1200 discount if I decided to buy one by the end of this month. So right there, without even negotiating, can get a discount of $2200 off MSRP. It's even possible the discounts could improve since they seemed to price these minivans, in certain configurations, higher than the competitors.

The $41K T&C must have more features than the $39K Honda, right? How about comparing equally equiped? It's not easy to always do though because you can't decide to eliminate the power passenger seat or the heated 2nd row seats on the T&C or have only 1 DVD and sun shades only for 2nd row, etc.

Just for the fun of it, I went to the Honda website. You might be surprised to find out the MSRP is not what you thought.

Actually if you go to Honda's link of "Build Your Honda", the 2007 with some equivalent features as the T&C looks like this :$41,036. And they say "Selected Accessories (installation costs not included)". So how much more for installation?: I realize this includes the PAX run-flats , so you could save $ if you don't want these which from what I've heard is only an option on the 2008 Odd.

(cut and pasted)

"My 2007 Odyssey
Touring with Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation and DVD Rear Entertainment Systems Automatic Transmission (Standard Features)

Base MSRP*: $39,095

Destination & Handling: $635

MSRP including selected accessories: $41,036

Selected Accessories (installation costs not included):

  3rd Row Sunshade $215

  Black All-Season Floor Mats $205

  Back-Up Sensors $598

  Auto Day/Night Mirror $288 "

What's the price for the 2008 Honda? Might it be more?

The difference in cost between the T&C & Odyssey is much less than you think.
