If you really were a longtime GM guy then you wouldn't even consider a Toyota. So i would say you are the Bias one.

You got be to kidding.

I've driven GM for the last 25 years, but now have a Ford Taurus and Honda Odyssey in my garage. Love both of them.

The General just didn't have what I wanted when I was shopping last. Their minivans are lousy and their new CUV's are overpriced and too small for what I need. The Taurus was bigger, safer, quieter and better built than the Impala I compared it with.

Just because I was a GM guy didn't mean I had blinders on my eyes.

That's the smart move! My folks, for years, were Honda-only people. They never had a reason to look around, or so they thought. They bought vehicles that provided safe, very reliable transportation. They compromised on what vehicle they bought by staying within one brand. Do they still like Honda? Sure; they have a 2007 Civic EX with over 60,000 miles (and no, no typo there!). They also are the proud owners of a 2008 Ford Taurus. They say it is the nicest car they've ever owned or driven (and I have to agree after years of Civics and 4-cyl Accords, plus an Odyssey and a CR-V). I've driven it as well, and it is very impressive.

To limit yourself from brands because of what others say isn't a wise move. Sure, there are larger trends you should look at (check long-term reliability, none of this JD-Powers Initial Quality stuff), but also examine your needs. When I convinced my parents to at least give the Taurus a try, they found they could have a leather-equipped, 263hp Full Size sedan for their highway trips, with all the bells and whistles, for the same price that they were quoted on an LX (base model) 4-cylinder Accord.

Checking your options is an important thing to do, and try looking at things in an unbiased way!

I have owned GM, Ford, Volkswagen, Volvo, Chrysler, and Toyota. My current 2006 Sienna LE is one of the LEAST liked of all vehicles...Volkswagen and Volvo are the only brands that disappointed me more than the Sienna LE.

The Honda Odyssey is at the top of my list for most probable next new vehicle.

Get ready to spend alot of time in the Honda service waiting area. Your first transmission should last about 8k miles. Honda will say they are sorry about that, hold your van for about three weeks while they ship the parts from Japan. You will get it back all full of grease on the interior. That should last you for another 10k or so miles when the rotors will warp an vibrate the hell out of everything. Your dvd player will skip over any expansion joint in the road. Your sliding door will malfunction to a point where one day you are opening it up and it will come right off of the track onto you child foot. Unfortunately the monkey behind the counter at the Honda dealership will say is this "they all do that" So good luck with your purchase. I'll save you a chair if you get there early enough. It fills up fast these days at my local Honda dealership.

I've owned four Honda Odysseys and never had a serious problem with any of them. Other than the PAX tires, I have no complaints.

You must trade them after 5k miles. That's when all of the problems start

35,000 miles on a Honda? That equals at least three tranmission rebuilds
