VWoA's move to Dulles corridor is confirmed. Audi and Bentley will also be moving to DC. The move is to "shake things up" in order to improve VW's market share. New headquarters=new thinking. Is Auburn Hills is to be blamed for VW's current problems? Will DC stimulate the mindset to allow VW to connect with US buyers? IMO VW would be better off selling German VW's without "Americanizing" the designs.

They didn't create the Phaeton that was an answer to a question no one asked. Auburn Hills didn't decide to jack up the price of the Jetta and Passat beyond what the market was comfortable with. Those fiasco's emanated from Deutchland. |

Also the German military has a "base" of sorts right near Dulles Airport. And Dulles Airport has become a big international hub with lots of flights to Europe. But this one still doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I would have thought that if they moved out of Michigan, it would be to the New Jersey suburbs of New York, where the other U.S. operations of the European auto makers are clustered.

New Jersey has too many issues (corruption, high property taxes, auto insurance, nepotism, cronyism) to make a move there financially viable. If it was my decision, I would move to Northern VA as well. Don't get me wrong - I love NJ (I still visit friends and family there quite frequently), but nowadays, it has become a great place to be FROM.... NJ will not see me as a resident again in life. |

I think it is a mistake to move to the Dulles area though if VWoA proves me wrong I'll be happy. I love VW's lineup in Germany and it is the watered down lineup in the US that is the problem, not the lack of Amercanized, Camry like designs that is the problem. |
