The seller can get a pro rata refund of his 'original' purchase price from Toyota which should keep him happy unless he is trying to make a profit on the transfer to you.

Right now I am thinking of offering around $800 to $1000 for the warranty. Some members here have suggested that out-of-state Toyota warranties are not legal in California (where I am). Do you know if this is actually true? Where might I check? I hesitate to ask a dealer because they have a vested interest in selling the warranty.

| Didn't a few of those 3rd party warranty companies go belly up a few years back?If I was going to buy an extended warranty I think I'd stick to a manufacturers one.Toyota probably isn't going broke | |

Hi, my name is Shayn, and I live in Houston. My 2007 Solara's factory warranty is almost expired, so I've been doing a lot of homework regarding an extended "service contract." Man, I've learned a lot! In a nutshell, there are about 30 companies out there that administer extended service contracts. I wouldn't want to cast a blanket statement over every one, but apparently, a good number of them are not playing "by the rules." In fact, the largest company by far, US Fidelis(yes, the racing commercial), also known as several other names, has had 1254 complaints with the BBB in 3 years time. 1254! In addition, they're under investigation by the Attorneys General in 40 states. I learned a bunch more, and I'd love to share it with whoever would be interested in learning more. Evidently, we have to watch each other's backs when it comes to getting screwed by a large corporation. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to put my e-mail address on this posting; I guess I'll find out soon enough. Take care! Regards, Shayn Houston, TX sp91546 |
