The bailout does not change a poor design and quality process, GM has a flaw(causes slippage) with these transmissions that typical occur in the 55K-65K region, this is just another problem, also the front door speakers are dead, the remote only works from 10 feet due to receiver being blown out by static electricity, and the brakes are the worse, very undersized. I am shopping the competition today, never buying a GM again, done after 30 years.....previously I owned a 2001 Impala that went through the 6 re-designs of the intake manifold gasket, sad story, sad company, stay away from them.

I have a 2007 impala ls and recently the check engine light came on, it happened about a month ago and then went off , i tried tightening the gas gap and it seemed to go off shortly after that for a while until I filled up with gas again and after about using a quarter tank the light came back on, was wondering if you had any insight or suggestions.

Greets. A couple of ideas for you. first, clean the gasket and filler neck surfaces completely free of the blackish buildup to promote a good seal. If that doesn't work, there is a solenoid in the rear drivers fenderwell behind the filler neck that can be accessed easily by removing the rear tire. This is notorious for failing, and will throw a code, P0440 or P0449 IIRC. On mine, i opted to pull it, shot some WD40 into it, used a 12 volt battery to cycle it several times, reinstalled, and never had another problem with it. Others have just replaced it. Once accessed, it's only held in with one 10 mm bolt. I'd strongly suggest joining an online forum called NAIOA, It is one of the best W-body forums around, of which I am still a member even though my Imp has been gone for a few months now. I have a 2006 Chevy Impala SS I bought with with about 75k on it, and it has about 95k to date. I have had a water pump, two batteries, two tire press. sensors, ventilation system servos, broken wire to the tranny lock, and 3 wheel bearings replaced. Add to that, the parking brake won't stay in adjustment, the b-pillars are silvering, consumes a quart+ of oil per change, and the transmission slips.
 
Compare that to the 1991 Caprice Classic it replaced with over 400k miles on it that still ran great but failed the NOX test by 12 points. I got 175k miles per tranny rebuild, about the same duration from water pumps, it burned 1/2 quart of oil at retirement, was never rebuilt, and still had the original starter.
 
I think I need to come run your engineering-design quality processes for you.
 
By the way, the transmission slipping started immediately after getting a tranny flush, and predominately happens in cold weather at low idle speeds (500 rpm range), the bands/clutch grips when the rpms get to about 800, which would indicate to me it's a sticking hydraulic servos (if this car even has them). - JB

Tonight, while trying to pull out of work, my transmission seemed to go right in the middle of oncoming traffic. I was pushing on the gas but nothing. I would hit the gas, the RPMs would rev, but i could not move. Cutting it way too close for comfort, at the last minute, my car jolted forward. When i finally made it across traffic, I had to pull off the side of road to collect myself. I finally make it home after driving 40 mph with my blinkers on the highway. I ask my boyfriend to check all the normal fluids. Everything checks out good. He tries to move the car, but it wont move in reverse or drive. He then tells me the transmissions shot! Dont get me wrong, I am very thankful i made it home from work in one piece. What i am not thankful is coming home and getting on the computer to see how many other people have had their tranmissions go in their Impalas. I am a single working mother who bought Chevy because my father instilled in me that American made is always the way to go. Even though everyone else told me to buy Toyota or Honda. This was my first brand new car. It has 115,000 miles (of course out of warrany) on it and I am looking at a lot of $$$$ to repair that i dont have. This will be the last Chevy I own. It is sadly disappointing to say.
