What is this discussion about? Mazda MAZDASPEED MAZDA3, Hatchback

Full Test: 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 by Mazdaspeed Accessories - he factory-tuned version of the Mazdaspeed 3 is a preposterous pocket rocket that straps nearly 300 horsepower to a chassis riding on a racetrack-type coil-over suspension kit. All the good stuff comes from Mazdaspeed Accessories, so this is the Mazdaspeed Mazdaspeed 3 (Mazdaspeed2?).

Even better! It just gives Mazda-and other automakers in this market niche-a new target to aim for. Competition ALWAYS improves the breed!

Could not agree more

The supercharged Cobalt SS ran on regular unleaded. Can't they make a hi po turbo that does not require premium fuel . With fuel going to a possible 4 bucks a gallon by the end of the summer, who wants to pay 20 cents more per gallon for premium. Forget about diesels, lets get these great vehicles running on the cheap stuff. I'm sick of running on premium. My car nocks and pings like crazy on regular unleaded.

Buy the premium and enjoy. MS3 also employs direct injection which allows for higher compression giving less turbo lag if premium is specified. You buy a Speed3 for the performance at $5-8,000 less than anything else with 263/280 and you're going to cry over using premium? Do the math. If you drive 15,000 mi/yr at 20 mpg that's 750 gl x $.20 = $150! You spend that much at Starbucks every month!

I agree 100%. If you can't swing an extra $12.50 per month you shouldn't have bought an MS3.

The unofficial word is that Mazda is developing an ECU reflash that cures the lean condition that trips the CEL. When the reflash is ready sales will resume. Timeframe? I'd say 2-3 weeks at least...

I recently contacted a mazda dealer thats "mazdaspeed" certified asking them for prices/catalogue of the current accessories. They couldn't tell me anything, they still had only the 07 information. I know that 08 was basically a carry over, for the speed3 anyway, so whats the hold up? I want my CAI and new exhaust now! anyone have the scoop? thanks

To my knowledge there are no new 2008 Mazdaspeed accessories for the MS3. The CAI just got CARB certification for the '08 MY and the CBE is good to go as well. If you want the Mazdaspeed CAI you'll have to wait until the stop sale order is lifted but that should be the only hold-up.

I just heard from a Mazda employee that the reason that Mazda stopped selling the CAI for the Speed 3 is that cars with the latest ECU reflash throw a check engine light on some cars with with the CAI. It is supposedly not an issue with cars that have not had the reflash. Which reflash, they did not know, although there was a "lack of power/emissions" flash in early 2008 that people report mixed opinions on. The only constant change with that reflash seems to be a smoother start in first gear in normal driving. Leaning out the mixture at low RPM and partial throttle position could provide that performance change. At least it does on bikes that I have mapped. This could agree with what you said about the lean condition, if the problematic factory reflash leaned things out under the same conditions that the CAI leans things out.

Allegedly, Mazda in working on a map specifically for cars with the CAI. Hopefully, the new map will be performance-oriented!

As of 4/2/08 there is another TSB(01-022/08) which supposedly corrects problems with low fuel pressure. The fix involves a PCM reflash and possibly replacement of the Cam Driven Fuel Pump(CDFP). I have also heard that a CAI reflash is in the works.
