I'm holding out on getting the new Astra as reliability data are not yet conclusive. I know the Opels and Vauxhalls are pretty much hit or miss interms of reliability and the parts in Europe are especially expensive (approaching BMW expensive).   The downside to Vauxhalls we've had in the past was longterm the cars weren't reliable + the parts were so expensive.   1. What has reliability been like so far for current owners fof both 3 and 5 door models?   2. Has anyone had to replace any non-warrantied wear & tear items and what were the cost(s)?   3. An undetermined (small, but not insignificant) percentage of people have had some check-engine light issues, although no breakdowns to my knowledge. Has anyone taken any long road trips? If so how were the ride and useability?   Went on a 300+ mile each way road trip. No problem with comfort for me or my passenger. The radio has a convenient "autoscan" feature (at least in the base model) that picks out the nine strongest stations at any given time and presets them. Works great when traveling between cities and trying to find a station that doesn't play crap.

Replying to: swaybar (Jul 07, 2008 3:55 pm) I am a Saturn Sales consultant, the astra was designed with stabiltrak, a major improvement and it is by far heavier the all the older models of saturn. It has Winter Mode, a stabilizing mode for compact cars in adverse weather if you would like some more info please send me a email and I will be happy to do this. ajeffery.sohhotmail.com

All was going well with my Astra until I hit about 6000 miles. It's been in and out of the shop since. First A/C problems, now engine problems. It's been at the dealer for the past 2 weeks and it is still not fixed.

I purched an 08 Astra XR 5 door in July. Love everything about car but auto trans. Don't like it when it shifts into neutral at stop light. When you start up again it seem to hit into gear hard with a jerk. The rest of the car I really like. Fit & finsh is very well done. This is a great little car. Has the price gone up a lot? Mine has everything, XR, adv audio, sport handling, premium trim, leather seats, auto, no sunroof,total sticker price less tax was $21,655.00. Test car in article had a price of $26,300.00. Maybe not US dollars. Let me know.
