sure I have questions

1- How's the engine? lack of power? noisy? vibration?
2- How is the 5-speed manual? notchy? smooth? clutch feel?
3- Any squeaks/rattles?
4- How is the radio sound quality? not loud enough? bass? treble?
5- The seats, cloth or leather? How supportive are they?
6- Any lag in the gas pedal?
7- How are the brakes? brake feel? stopping distance?
8- How's the handling? Compared to a mazda3?

9- and most of all, let us know what your fuel economy is!!

thanks!

The Mini is considered upscale regardless of its ride or creature comforts. Mini is just an upscale brand.

As far as the Astra, I am curious about the size of the back seat, but that is more of a question about a four door Astra.

I've owned one for about 2.5 months, and I feel I can give a more complete answer to this question than a reviewer who will only have it for a week. I have the XE trim with manual.

With 50% city and 50% highway miles, average MPG over the first 2000 miles was about 30 MPG.

Best tank was 36.2 MPG (mostly highway).

Worst tank was 23.8 (all stop and go in a hilly city)

Most recent tanks have been about 33 MPG.

"Sadly, the Nürburgring suffers from the same lifeless, kickback-prone steering as the VXR, and ultimately it lacks the polish, finesse and composure of the Focus ST and VW Golf GTI."

Even the new Honda Fit seems fancier:

An Astra w/ multi-links is just around the corner:

winter weather by swaybar

Without getting too technical, can anybody tell me if the Astra is any good in snow and ice? The Saturns had a reputation of being lousy in Northern winters because they were so light.

I am thinking of getting a new car next year and I am now used to 4-wheel drive and antilock brakes etc. Maybe I will keep the old Tribute for winter.

I don't have any firsthand experience with the snow in the astra, however, the Astra no longer has the plastic panels that were native to earlier saturns, thus making its weight comparable, if not slightly heavier than other cars in its class.

The automatic version I believe comes with a traction control system of some sort to make it easier to start in the snow.

Not directly related, but heated seats are available on all trim levels for only $250...

Astra Reliability by insidertrading

I'm holding out on getting the new Astra as reliability data are not yet conclusive. I know the Opels and Vauxhalls are pretty much hit or miss interms of reliability and the parts in Europe are especially expensive (approaching BMW expensive).

The downside to Vauxhalls we've had in the past was longterm the cars weren't reliable + the parts were so expensive.

1. What has reliability been like so far for current owners fof both 3 and 5 door models?

2. Has anyone had to replace any non-warrantied wear & tear items and what were the cost(s)?

3. Has anyone taken any long road trips? If so how were the ride and useability?
