Yes, that's seems like a good deal. Remember too, that MB will waive your last 3 months lease payments if you move into another MB...which gives you even more flexibility. It's really like a 24 month lease with a 3 month option to extend. Two years will fly by quick, and you might want a new CLS or move into the new E-class, S-class or just walk away altogether. Leases more than 30 months are always a pain as you tend to find you want out before the lease is up (new cars come out, better engineering/tech, etc.)

It's still much better than you would ever do on an XF lease. I was 99% ready to get the XF and had placed a deposit on one. The lease deals were...well, there are none. They lease at full MSRP with no incentives. The CLS and 550i lease rates you will find are much less. And the CLS generally lists for $10K+ more than the XF. Once I drove the CLS, I was convinced the XF was not worth $200+ more a month in lease paymnets.

Mileage is never a problem. I've leased 6 cars and have never once turned a car in at the end of a lease, thereby subjecting myself to mileage, wear/tear etc. You simply dump the lease before it expires by leasing or buying another car. The seller will then take the leased car off your hands. Depending on the FMV of your car, you might actually come out ahead, but worst case you lose one months payment if you exit with one month left (you pay that amount to the dealer), but if you have put on tons of miles and beat it up, that's a much better deal that turning it in.

Case in point. With a MB lease, you're required to do maintenance and the car's computer tracks it and displys when it's overdue. Turn in the lease one day before the 24K mile service is due, and I just save $800...turn it in one day later, they bill me for that. There are lots of strategies to leasing that can make it a better deal.

Ultimately, the bottom line is...if you don't mind driving one car for 5+ years, then BUY. Otherwise, lease, but make sure you're gettign a good deal (one great way is to shop other models....in this case, you'll see the XF deals suck).

I also drive a German car. S class MB. Now is time for my next car. Love the looks of the XF and feel I don't need as large a car as the S, but want 4 doors. Have driven the XF twice and had a positive experience time, although I did not put it through nearly as agressive test. Realiability and mechanics on my car have been superb. The thought of a bunch of nitpicky problems which I assume the dealer can rectify is holding me back from pulling the trigger on a XF. As I own my car I might let a few months pass by a see what kind of reports about come out. First year of any new model can have some issues.

It's also good to wait since, assuming the XF doesn't flop, they'll have a much newer, more powerful engine in next year's model. The base engine will likelky have over 400HP, with the upgraded version well over 500HP, with the prices not that dramatically different from the new XF models. This is another reason not to pull the tringer - sucks to get a brand new car and less than a year later your car is signficantly outdated by an newer model. Might as well paint "sucker" on your rear winshield.

When I bought my "S" it was one of the first ones out the door of the first year of a new model. Other than a suspension issue which MB took care of the car has been a pleasure. No little problems than can be quite annoying. Don't feel like I can trust Jaguar to deliver this reliability with a car in its first year of production. I look forward to hearing from new XF owners and their experiences in the months to come.

You're not making sense. No way Jag would have 400 hp as a base motor next year. R editions are coming, but there will be a substantial cost difference and you won't be able to get into one for a 50k base price.

People are very fuel conscious these days and while hp is very important, so is fuel economy for a lot of people. 300hp as a base and 420 for the super are quite good as compared to the competition.

BMW, Mercedes, and Audi all have motors under 300 hp as their base engine. BMW is under 250hp, Audi is 255hp for their A6. Mercedes is 270 or so.

A MB E class starts 52k for a 6 cylinder.

The XF is very fairly priced, and especially the Supercharged is a heck of alot of car for the money.

You guys have to realize that Jags never leased out that well. The XF mid 50 - low 60's does make the rest of their product look bad. Why would you cough up 80k for an XJ when can stroke a check for 20k less and get the XF.

Lots of people in this market segment pay cash for cars and have money to spend. Not everybody is worried about lease payments.

Lots of people with money do worry about lease payments actually, partciularly when their company is picking up the payments. I could buy the XF, BMW, or MB, that wouldn't make sense since my company reimburses us for business use (almost 100%), so it's much easier for them to just lease the car and this has tax advantages over buying. If I'm a retired person, then sure, I plop down a check for 63K and drive off owning an XF (an untested car incidentally). The perceived value for what you pay beats the competitors. But when a business is involved, leasing is more attractive and hence, the lower the payment the better. In this case, the XF lease payments stink relative to the CLS550 or BMW550i, and the CLS in particular lists for $20,000 more, and I'm offered a lower monthly payment with = drive off. It's a no brainer. For buying, I agree the XF is one of the best deals (again, untested car though), but for leasing it stinks.

They are in fact expecting to bump up the base model HP (gas prices or not). Look how they are selling now. Most 8cyl these days you can actually just break 20mph if you don't drive like a speed demon (and traffic jams aside). I'm averaging 21 mph with the CLS550 V8. Anyhow, the 4.2 engine is way overdue for an upgrade, and that is in fact what they are doing. The XFR will have a new supercharged version of the new engine..maybe 5 liter (not sure), but the nonsupercharged version will go in the base model...maybe not immediately, but a year thereafter. Anyhow, that's another reason I stayed away from the XF. Nothing worse than getting a car and very next year they come out with a model that makes you look like an idiot for paying about the same price (probably even a premium as we are seeing), then they come out with a more powerful version. Like all the 2006 year MB buyers...2007 models did not change at all, but the base V8s shot up by 80HP for the same price. Expect the XF base jump ot be larger. Most people get cars and never research the future models.

Of course, this is just me. I'm sure many people will be happy w/ their base 300HP, or turbo420 (which is actually not as quick as I expected when I drove it) for this year. Assuming they get to drive them. Check out the roadfly XF forum and see the problems people are experiencing shortly after taking deliver. Mostly these are electrical problems. But one person has what many feared...the gear shifter refused to rise up!!!! Had to be towed to the dealer, not even on a flatbed no less.

Anyhow, I'm still interested in an XF but the wait and see stragegy is the best one now. 1) Wait for much bigger engine next year, 2) wait for first year problems to be fixed in next model 3) get lower payments due to some market saturation, 4) see how the market reacts to an INDIAN company owning Jaguar, and see if they further go ahead and flip it to another buyer, as has been suggested.

When peope talked about leasing a vehicle, I didn't think about a comply reimbursing you for it. Now I understand why someone would lease a vehicle. My company doesn't do that.

When I saw the XF, I wasn't looking for a V-8 engine. I much prever the V-6 for myself. I now have the X-Type and it has a V-6 and I get 27-28 mi/gal plus I have to use the plus gasoline which cost more. My XF will make approx 18 mi/gas. I hope I can use regular in it.

Got a message from my dealer. My vehicle is on its way and will arrive at port on April 16th. Getting anxious.

Given the history of British Electronics (Lucas: The Prince of Darkness), this is my main worry with the XF. I know Jag quality has improved, but the rising shift knob, the twirling vents: problems waiting to happen.

That's why I, too, will wait until later in 2009 to consider the XF. Let 'em work out the bugs. But I'll take an XK right now, thank you...
