Replying to: rjlaero (Mar 21, 2008 3:54 pm) So if a BMW dealership leases 100 new BMWs one month they might be expected to retain 50 to 75 of those BMWs when they come off of lease. If they don't meet their goals then BMW cuts the dealer out of certain special programs and bonus money. |

| I know that the initial demand has been very good, so there will be no screaming lease deals. But I was hoping Jaguar would try to "compete" to the business guy who likes to lease his cars for 2-3 years, then get something new. BMW, Infiniti, Audi, Lexus etc. all have better lease offerings that Jaguar. At least set a reasonable residual and money factor (especially with interest rates so low right now). So, even though the regular XF is lower in price than the 535i, the lease is 200/m more than the 535. I test drove the new 535 last week and I really like it. I am going to test drive the XF next week, but I can't see how I will like it enough to justify the extra $$$. | |

The sticker on the CLS was about $81,000, but they marked it down to about $73,000 for the lease. Jaguar is not discounting its leases at all, so they are at full MSRP of $62,975. Then, CLS has the lease further subsidized by MB, better money factor and residual, so it ends up nearly $300 month less....for a more expensive car. I drove both and love the XF. It has more technology that the CLS, but the CLS (despite lower HP) feels much quicker...it snaps you back in your seat whereas the XF never really gave that feeling.....not a car expert, but I think the torque/hp ratio or something is much better on the CLS. CLS rides smoother too. And, well it's a Benz, and one you don't see too much of vs. the E, C, etc. Would have loved to go with the XF, but you'd have to be a complete idiot to take that lease deal when the CLS and 550i both have much better lease rates, by hundreds a month. They tried to tell me that XF is exclusive and few people will have them, but for that kind of rate I can see why few people will have them. The XF is better for buying right now vs. leasing. They will eventually have to lower these rates. It doesn't bode to well for Jaguar, and in the midst of an ownership change where it's rumored some that Tata will flip Jaguar off soon after the sale. That, first model year, and insane lease rates means the the best action is to hold off on this. Sit back and see what happens, then move in if the rates get better. For now, anyone shopping an XF would be well-served checking out the CLS or 550i. CLS is also a good deal as they are trying to move them before the 2009 comes out in about 2 months, and that car has really no major changes from the 2008 (2 bar grill instead of 4; led taillights; slight interior changes). When my CLS lease it up, mabye the XF refresh at that time will finally solve the headlight heating issues and get them closer to teh XF-concept car, thus making it a much more beautiful car (and maybe tone down on all the "jaguar jewelry" as they told they call it....the excessive use of chrome). For sale: One new, never usued XF keychain; One new, never used Jaguar travel coffee mug (fits in XF). |

If I put what you put down, then it would have been around $821 per mo. 2) They offered me one with P2 package, parktronic, AMG appearance, IPOD at $2,500 down, $1,060 per mo, 10k mi. If i put down what you did, then it woudl have been $875 per mo. The first car was right off the truck. The seond had a few more miles on it. I would have gone with #1, but the AMG wheels I liked enough to pay $60 per month for (and the Parktronic). Euromotors in Bethesda MD. CLS550 2008 27 mo lease is a great alternative to the XF, since the 2009 CLS doesn't at all change drastically, tand there will be even more optiosn in this price range when it comes off lease in just 2 years, which will fly by. Plus XF is new and will surely have some issues, while the CLS is tested and proven. BTW...Jaguar dealer just called me at home and was sorry to hear I was "backing out of their deal"...but he admited they can't compete wtih MB and BMW on leases, but suggested there should be much better options available in 24 months when things settle down, supply picks up, ownership thing settles down, etc. So I'll reassess the XF then. I love driving the CLS550 though. A little tougher getting in/out of than the XF and really no decent cup holders, but overall the feel and drive of the CLS are better....(plus chicks dig it much more, esp. black, not that this is ever a deciding factor of course). |

Several weeks ago I did a walk-around and sit-in of the XF and liked it. It looked and felt modern and seemingly a possible alternative to its competition. Well, last Saturday I took the car on a half hour test drive. I did highway and local driving, and by the end I wasn't sold. The car was certainly agile, and performed well, but small things kept the car from feeling special. I was surprised by the amount of road and wind noise. In fact the salesman admitted that a lot of noise was entering the cabin, and thought perhaps a seal around the front passenger door was to blame. In a $62,000 car! The sleek interior design that I loved a week earlier felt overly spartan on the road. The "handshake" that the new shifter performed was entertaining, but not the "emotional" experience that the marketing suggests. And yes, the rotating air vents and rising shifter did feel gimmicky. Rear leg and head room were very tight and the back seat area seemed somehow unfinished. Add the plastic front grille and problematic design of the headlights and the romance evaporated. This is a case where I followed the evolution of the creation of the XF and wanted very much to love it. I think the press - particularly the British press - has been overly enthusiastic about the car. There were 9 available at the dealership three weeks ago, and the same 9 were there this past weekend. I don't know if its the economy, or resistance to the new design, but I was surprised to see a heavily hyped new model available in such numbers for several weeks. So, it's back to weekend test-drives over the coming weeks, and I'm back to the usual suspects. 5 Series and the M45 are at the top of the list. Oh well.
