XF vs. 550i vs. CLS leases by peedy1

Me again.
Okay, now the BMW dealers is quoting me a better rate as well on teh 550i, which prices out to be about the same as teh XF (though this 550i does not have the sport appearance package.

$2,500 drive off, 36 mo, 10.5K miles:

XF: $1,115 (in MD, so no prop. taxes to muddle the picture).
550i: $990

Or CLS550, same terms except 27 months: $1,066

Which would anyone here take?

I'd choose the car/lease that best met my needs/wants/desires. If $ is more important than the actual car you will be driving for the next 36 months, the BMW. But, if it's not the car you really want...

What car do you really want to lease? Each choice, of course, has its own merits/demerits.

Surely it's Jaguar for the heart; Germans for the head.

Do you want to love your car or merely admire its qualities ?

The 5 series just had its midlife facelift and the CLS's midlife facelist should be available within the next few months, so if the only consideration in leasing is finding the lowest dollar payment, then those two are going to be the best value/choice versus an all new XF that has been available for sale for less than 2 weeks. All three are great choices (interesting that the e-class doesn't seem to be playing into the 'competitiion,' but that people are jumping to the CLS), but it's going to be unrealistic to expect favorable lease conditions on the XF until supply catches up with the initial demand.

Yeah the front end fell victim to the European pedestrian crash standards and problems with the headlight lenses. Talking to one of my contacts at Jag/LR it turns out that the slim tapered headlights of the concept would not work in the real world. The HIDs were putting out so much heat that the lens would start to melt and potential catch fire in certain circumstances. They tried a few different solutions but ended up having to simply enlarge the lens to let more heat out.

Function over form, que lastima!

Thanks for the technical details, I thought that possibly the enlarged lights were a nod to the four headlight configuration heritage of the XJ and S Type et. al.

Maybe a midlife refresh for the XF will allow some re sculpting of the front.

State of California:
Here are some numbers straight off my dealer worksheet last night. MSRP was reduced by $250!!!!! Which I was told wont happen anywhere.
Premium Luxary at about $59,000 (after $250 discount) (there is also a gas guzzler tax here for about $1440 not sure if that is accross the US)
5k drive off (including tags and first payment)
50% residual 36 month 36k miles
.0018 Money Factor (about 1/2 the price of Jag Credit.) This was through US Bank, the dealer is using Jag, US Bank and Chase. USBank is by far the cheapest.
$973 a month taxes included (7.75% sales tax rate in San Diego county)

I have to admit the looks are amazing and drive is very very nice.
There must be thousands of 5 series, E Class and CL Class on the streets in Southern California. I figure the monthly is worth it to be unique. There is no other car that looks anything like it... should be less than 1,000 of them here in the next 12 months. With a population of 4+Mil it will be unique.

That being said, has anyone done better than these #s? I sign the lease today

You seem to have some good information. Tested the car and very pleased. Looks great. Considering changing from Mercedes. Major concern is buying XF in its first year and reliability of Jaguar. Any comments appreciated.

That residual is horrible. I like the fact that they went through another lender, but the residual makes the lease very prohibitive. For example, the 535i lease for 36K miles has a residual of 60% (62 for 12,000 miles).

Yeah because BMW is inflating the residuals. There is no way a a 535i is going to be worth 60% after three years.A few months ago BMW was offering the X3 24 month lease with 75% residuals and that is simply impossible. BMW is simply supporting the lease with inflated residuals and subvened money factors and that is something Jag can't afford to do. A 50 percent residual is about normal for a luxury car after three years.

We have been going with US bank for most of our Range Rover Sport and LR3 leases since Land Rover doesn't offer enough support for those models through LRCG. US Bank also does not include property tax so it makes the payments lower or more inline with other leasing companies.
