I've put a $2,500 deposit on a Supercharged Liquid Silver. It has not come in, but some others have, so I have still driven the SC and gotten the lease rates, and I'm not obligated until the car comes in in about a week. Well, the lease rates stink. With $2,500 down - total drive off costs - the monthly payments are as follows (now to mess things up, in Virginia, Jaguar leasing includes estimated annual personal property taxes in the rate, so you can't really get a feel what what your paying and they refuse to break it out (this is 10.5K miles a year): 24 months=$1,335 30 months= $1,260 36 months = $1,210 39 months = $1,188 Since Jag leasing in VA wont' let you pay the property taxes yourself (like all other cars do...they claim you save money this way, right!), I then got a quote on the same car, same down, but 12K year, over in Maryland, and they would only quote me one term: 36 months = $1,115 So I went next door to the Mercedes dealer. Get this, the 2008 CLS550 has this incredible lease deal through the end of March (go to the Benz website for details). Anyhow, with the same $2,500 drive off, 10K miles per year, the monthly payment over 24 months is $1,066. So: Jag XF, about 63K, $2,500 down; $1,335/24 mo. CLS550, about $73K, $2,500 down, $1,066/mo. Amazing (the dealership estimate about $50 a month is property taxes on the Jag, so the Benz is still a better deal). Is the Jag still worth it? The Jag has many techno gizmos that the CLS doesn't even offer as options (back up cam, blind spot monitors, USB inputs, etc. etc.). The Jag is roomier and has a nicer interior. However, the CLS, while 40 less HP, actually feels much quicker, especially off the line. And it rides smoother than the Jag. I think the CLS is overpriced for what you get, but it's still $10K more than the Jag, so the Jag rates seem ridiculous by comparison. I know the CLS is coming out with the 2009 model in 2 months, but it's doesn't change much at all from the 2008 model. Not sure what I should do. Get the CLS at the great rates, or get the Jag, which I like a more, but get hosed on the rates. Of course, the CLS is still a very nice car. Oh, and since I lease a E350 now, Benz will waive the last 3 months payments, whereas Jag won't. Thoughts anyone? BTW, here are the residuals they gave me on the Jag SC XF: 24 months=69% 30 monnths=64% 36 months=59% 39 months=57%

They had strong residuals but very high money factors. You have to keep in mind that the CLS is basically the same platform as the E-Class. How many E-class derivatives does Merc sell worldwide in a year? I don't know but counting the CLS, CLK, and all the other versions of the E-class versions. Just in the US last year Merc sold 72,000 E, CLS and CLK models and that is a lot of volume to spread incentives around. http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2008/01/03/074302.html Jag doesn't sell that many cars in total for the US so they can't afford to put the massive incentives that Mercedes and BMW do.
