Replying to: jjgallagher (Nov 18, 2008 8:37 pm) Would also be interested in hearing from anyone else who has had their XF for some time. Any issues? I've had an XJ8 for 10 years (love the car despite the $$ maintenance). It's time for a new car. Nothing is wowing me except for the XF (I've looked at Mercedes, BMW, etc.) I'm a little reluctant to to get the XF given it's a new model though--no data on reliability. Would appreciate all input to get me off the fence.

Replying to: jag_gal (Jun 08, 2009 4:48 pm) No problems so far except a minor recall for the fuel filler door which was easily fixed by the dealer during my oil change. I would absolutely buy it again. Oh, and I have 8k miles on it. |

| The owners manual says NO ETHANOL !! If used it may void your warranty. Where can you go anymore that doesnt have at least 10% ethanol in the gas?? Can you put an additive in your tank if your forced to use this crap they pedal as "good for the enviroment", that protects your car? | |

Replying to: hush (Jul 07, 2009 9:16 pm) There is no additive which could remove the ethanol or protect a fuel system not designed for 10% ethanol in gasoline. The harmful effects of up to 10% ethanol gasoline on the fiberglass and epoxy resin fuel tanks of boats is well known. Marinas reportedly supply ethanol-free gasoline. Could you quote the specific reference ( giving page, section and year model) in the Jaguar manual which states "NO ETHANOL"?

Ensure that the fuel has octane ratings no lower than those recommended for unleaded fuel. Most drivers will not notice any operating difference with fuel containing Ethanol. I have an XF SC, 3200mi, bought March '08. I have 4 cars and this is my favorite and planned on keeping it forever. So far it is had 3 batteries, the sound was lost after a phone call (see recall on that), it stalled on start, shook and died, CAT FAULT FAILURE message. Waited and tried again and smooth as silk. Into Jag for diagnosis. They came up with 3rd battery, and replace air filters. I am losing faith in taking this automobile out for a trip. The car gets thumbs up every time it is out. Also, frame tweaks when I turn into my driveway. Windows rattle, they are tinted, and Jag mgr says it is the tint? If I tap down a little on each window or put them all down, does not rattle. Seems to me to be the fit when window up against seal. Do not know what next step should be? One more failure may put me over the edge. The dealer has been very helpful. . I bought this over a Maserati sedan, no real new features, and a Bentley Continental, interior like Wal Mart. This is a classy car, but has its faults. I may have bought one of the first ones manufactured. Paid sticker, with all accessories, two people waiting behind me to buy it if I did not. Maybe I should have let them? |
