Greetings, all. I'm in a G35X now, and I'm thinking of moving up to the LPS segment next time around (in a year or two). I'm currently researching/obsessing over the A6 3.0 quattro (Prestige) and the XF (nod to laurasdada) Premium Luxury. Equipped the way I want, they are priced within three grand (MSRP) of each other. Now, according to the Jag website, in 2010, there will be a new 5.0 V8 with 385 hp. that will get 25 mpg combined in the Portfolio model. That's similar to the A6's mileage, but with 85 more hp. Decisions, decisions. Now, if Jag would offer AWD... If these two become too expensive, I might check out the A4 2.0q, a la markcincinnati. Don't get me wrong; my Infiniti is fine-it will be my daughter's first car in two years. But the mileage (not great), and the boy-racer ride of the new ones has kinda got me thinking about getting a more genteel ride next time. I might even lease, also. Oh well. |

Two questions: 1) Does anyone have *actual* experience driving the supercharged XF in snow or ice? The 20" summer performance tires are not rated for mixed weather, but I was wondering just how much the winter driving mode may be able to offset the limitations of the summer tires in an inch or two of snow and slush (not heavy snow). I'm familiar with tire design principles, rubber compounds, glass points, etc. so I'm not looking for general discussion of use of summer tires in winter conditions. 2) The salesman (20 years of jaguar experience) claims his customers have cited up to 27 mpg during highway driving in the supercharged XF. Can anyone validate that claim? Thanks

The initial offer I received for a Jaguar XF Luxury with Cold Climate Package is $47,377. The MSRP is $50,775 and the Invoice Price is $46,227. The price quoted is only $1,150, or 2.49%, over invoice price and $3,398 under MSRP. I think this is a fair price, especially for an initial offer. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks.

A relative of mine recently bought an XF SC and remarked to me that he was getting less than 15 mpg in town. Then he noticed some instructions (maybe on the gas tank flap, I didn't get this detail) that the fuel cap is supposed to be tightened at least three clicks, and he had only been tightening one click. He changed to three clicks and immediately got 21 mpg on his trip to work. What is the explanation for requiring three clicks, and could this make this much difference in mpg without the message center alerting the operator? On my Volvo a failure to properly seat the gas cap gives a warning and maybe a message. |
