Full Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX V6 - At the test track, the new Accord hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and ran the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 91.8 mph. That's a solid improvement over the Accord in our last V6 Family Sedan Comparison Test, but it's still well behind the Camry V6 that whomped to 60 in just 6.5 seconds and scorched the quarter in 14.6 seconds at 97.3 mph. Wrong. In my case, I'm neither. I chose an 04 Malibu (because of the price -- definitely not for its looks!). I now wish I had bought the 7th Gen Accord instead. Love it or hate it, the 7th Generation had something this new design lacks: Distinctiveness. From a distance, you knew it was an Accord. Not a mishmash of Acura/BMW/Toyota/(and yes)Saturn styling gimmicks.

The folks that are bashing, well, you have to wait and see. Photos do not do cars justice. If you still dislike it in person, you may start liking it in a few months or even years. Every time my favorite cars are redesigned, I'm put off by the new look. I remember when the 7th gen Accord came out, I had just gotten used to the 6th gen, and I was pretty disappointed with the looks. It took me a couple of years, but eventually I grew to love it.

I agree completely that the read end is very reminiscent of the Acura RL, and that is a good thing--I think the RL is a beautiful car. Is it a conservative design? Yes, but then it SHOULD be. It's a car that many of the people who buy it will have for YEARS. The car needs to age well aesthetically, and this one strikes me as being just as capable of doing that as any they've made--maybe even more than the 7th gen model (which I own).

I think the new Accord is an improvement over the 7th gen, which to me has always appeared bloated, but other than the greenhouse, which reminds me of a BMW, the 8th gen invokes memories of a Saturn L-series. I'm sure that the designers did not intend to do this (who in their right mind would?), but that is the result that I see. I'm sure that the interior feels great, but a lot of those buttons could have been replaced by a couple of knobs, since many of their functions are mutually exclusive (only one can be chosen at a time). Since I'll be in the market for a new car in a few years, I really hoped that the Accord would return to the taut lines of the 1998-2002 models, but it appears that the Acura TSX will have to continue carrying the torch of what I consider to be the "true" Accord.

I agree with those who are recommending restraint, or at least patience, in evaluating the 8th gen through the early pictures. When the 2003 came out, for months I couldn't get past the bloated rear end and droopy tail lights. I bought one anyway (loved the car except for that), and over time I actually came to like the style. The Accord isn't designed to blow you away on first viewing, it's designed not to make enemies and to stand the test of time. At that it does quite well.

Wish the new Accord would've been the size of the TSX with the same "taut Lines" also...a much better size in my opinion. I do like the new Accord, it's just a little bloated that's all. The Sandman

Fortunately, the Non-nav version as you can see in this picture has the sound system controls all grouped together and it appears that could be removed and a custom deck installed. PS, if anyone sees interior photos of a Non Navigation with Leather model, please post the link. The difference from this picture is that the Leather version has a dual zone climate control whereas this pic has standard climate controls.

Does anyone know if the new Accord V6's will have a timing chain instead of a timing belt? Also can we expect the sedan to have a 6 speed manual transmission.

I am not sure of the timing chain or belt, but I do know that the 4cy will have a manual available, V6 will not, unless you get the coupe. Replies to this message: blufz1 (Aug 27, 2007 6:59 am)
