What is this discussion about? Honda Accord, Coupe, Sedan

First Drive: 2008 Honda Accord Sedan - The '08 Accord strikes a familiar balance of performance, value and efficiency. But this time it's not bland. (more)

First Drive: 2008 Honda Accord Coupe - An oddly sexy Honda Accord with the heart of, well, a Honda Accord. (more)

Full Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX V6 - At the test track, the new Accord hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and ran the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 91.8 mph. That's a solid improvement over the Accord in our last V6 Family Sedan Comparison Test, but it's still well behind the Camry V6 that whomped to 60 in just 6.5 seconds and scorched the quarter in 14.6 seconds at 97.3 mph. (more)

Long-Term Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6 - With every new generation of a vehicle as popular as this, questions are raised, even more so in a segment as fiercely competitive as the family sedan market. Has Honda gone too far in an effort to spice up its volume offering, aspired to too much sophistication? (more)

Honda did a great job. It does resemble a 5 Series BMW, and the Acura RL also. I am waiting for a Super Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) version.

There was a lot of plastic in the previous gen Accord's. Great build quality, but, lots of plastic.

What car does not have plastics? All interiors are plastic these days (at least in this segment). Some are high-grade, and some are low-grade. There are plastics that are soft to the touch, smooth at the edges, and appealing texture. Then there are hard plastics that scratch easy, have rough edges, and have almost no texture. The Accord has some of the highest grade plastics out there, IMO.

You're right. The new one does weigh about 100 pounds more; there's increased frontal area; the tires put more rubber on the road (more rolling resistance); but possibly the engine(s) have been made even more efficient.

I bought an '04 Civic near the end of its cycle, and I can always buy this model Accord later in its cycle. Hey, I love Honda! I like the Fit. I like The the CR-V. I like the regular Civic and the Si. I like the coupes too, but they just wouldn't fit our need to have one sedan. I even bought a couple of hundred shares of HMC (which I know will improve from its current slump).

Don't you think that the new 18 inch wheels are a little bit excessive?? Is it for bragging rights? Let's go to 19 inch next year . .

I bet the car would have a smoother ride with 17 inch tires in the V Coupe.

From the front, the new sedan looks good, but the rear quarter view has Saturn L-series written all over it. Not good.

And I am getting SO sick of these -- what do you call them? -- chrome reflectorized tailights. They look cheap. Nissan started it and now everybody else has to imitate.

Yes, I like the bigger rims, but more costly in the end for tires.

beedublu, You hit it head on! That chrome crap on car's tailights have got to go. Looks like a cheap ford. I guarantee those rear lights will be the first thing they change for the 2009 year. Honda does that every now and then with tailights I guess until they get enough complaints.

Yes, it does look like a Saturn L-series, now that you mention it. I still think its pretty bland, especially versus something like the new Aura.

I also find it interesting that Honda has chosen not to "move the bar" on weight reduction (I guess we have to look to Audi and BMW to do that).

By ahering so tightly to their (admittedly successful) past formula on the new Accord, Honda has opened themselves up to increasing competition from companies like Hyundai, who haven't a legacy to protect (yet).
