Full Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX V6 - At the test track, the new Accord hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and ran the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 91.8 mph. That's a solid improvement over the Accord in our last V6 Family Sedan Comparison Test, but it's still well behind the Camry V6 that whomped to 60 in just 6.5 seconds and scorched the quarter in 14.6 seconds at 97.3 mph. For the "i" folks, you may wish to play compressed music files on iPods, MP3 players, cell phones, etc., but I have no interest in staying plugged into those devices. So permit me to retain the choices of AM/FM/XM/CD, none of which can be considered antique or obsolete for my money.

Tell that to Mercedes BlueTec owners. You obviously haven't driven a modern turbodiesel - I absolutely love my Beetle TDI. It's smooth, quieter than gas at highway speeds, built like a tank, and still gets 47MPG with 156K miles driven hard. I'm intrigued by the notion of Honda dropping diesels in their CRV and/or Accord and can't wait to test drive one (by then the Beetle should have around 175K on it!). If my choices are (a) an old overpriced slow Mercedes, (b) a slow, ugly Beetle, or (c) a nice Accord, there is no question that you would find me in the Accord! I'll gladly pay 50% more for fuel! In the last 3 years I have driven about 25,000 miles. So I could have saved about $100 per year! Wow! Like I said, look for me in an Accord, (or more likely in an Azera!)!!! Dear Automakers---Why add the cost of a 6 CD changer to new cars???? All of my CDs are ripped to my MP3 player anyway and I think that is fast becoming the norm for anyone under 65. I wish that car makers would wise up and simply put in a good sound system (decent amp with nice speakers and a small sub) with AM/FM and an aux. jack. Put in a single CD player if you insist. Ditch those 6CD changers as yesterday's news. Put the savings into making Bluetooth standard with the premium stereo (I'd love one, but I ain't paying for the expensive Nav package just to get it). My '08 Accord Coupe (V6-L/6M) premium sound system has an aux jack for an MP3 player which I use regularly. I don't use the CD changer at all. My wife just got me a wonderful new one for Christmas--a Sony 8GB which has the best sound quality of any MP3 player I've yet heard (including various iPods and the Zen M). Heck, you can buy a decent little 1GB Sansa for under $40 that will hold over 10 CDs worth of music. This is my first vehicle with XM. I'm not really impressed enough to want to keep it. Once the free 3 months runs out, I won't be paying every month for radio. BTW--love my '08 Accord Coupe. I really wasn't a fan of the previous Accord Coupes. I believe that Honda hit a homerun with the re-styling on the '08. I get frequent looks, nods and smiles at redlights. The V6 coupled with the 6-speed manual tranny is a pleasure to drive. It has plenty of smooth low-end power and really howls when you wind it up over 4K rpm. I'm 6"2, 250 lbs with wide shoulders and it's a very comfortable ride. The front seats are very supportive. The back seat is a bit small, but I really don't care. We have 2 SUVs in our family if we need to haul people. I've had 3 Accords in the past 22 years and all gave great service. I'm just glad that they've now come out with a version that's a blast to drive. Just as many people probably love XM radio, and it's all they listen to. Frankly, I could live with only an FM radio that sounds decent. Well if you ever cared to look at 21st century technology, you would know that a person with a lot of CD's would not have to "acquire all the same music over again". You would simply rip the songs from your CD collection and put them ALL into a tiny portable device and not be limited to just the 6 CD's you could load in. If Honda had done their job correctly, they would've built IPod connectivity into their sound system, so song titles, artists, and album information would display on the car's display as many other car makers have done. Instead they just chose to give Ipod users only an aux port and spent the money on the CD changer which is a relic and outdated. Now, I just got a Ipod Nano, I am using the FM Modulator, and it is okay. So I really don't use it too much. But, when I get the 08 Accord, I will use the AUX, and that will play a roll on how much I use the CD Player. Even then, I have so much music, that not all of it is on my computer. Most other higher end cars, don't even have changer, switching to a single would bug me now. Or switching to a car without steering wheel controls.

I (like many others) don't have one of these tiny portable devices, don't need one, and don't want to spend $$$ on one. Is someone giving these devices away? CDs I already have. When these devices are outdated, what will you have to buy next? Seems there is always a new can't-do-without device. I, for one, can and will do without them. Not everyone is convinced they have to have the latest greatest thing, although the makers of these devices would have you believe you can't live without them. Is the sound from an iPod different from the sound from a CD? I don't think so. I was willing to switch from cassettes to CDs, for the improved sound quality, but there is no sound quality improvement from CD to iPod, so there is no reason for me to change. As the owner of a BMW 550i w/ the USB/iPod adaptor, I so wish it had been equipped with a 6-disc CD changer also. Sometimes I just don't feel like copying songs to a flash drive. I just want to throw a bunch of CDs in and go. There's plenty of life left in the CD-changer world, especially ones that play MP3 discs!
