What is this discussion about? Honda Accord, Coupe, Sedan

First Drive: 2008 Honda Accord Sedan - The '08 Accord strikes a familiar balance of performance, value and efficiency. But this time it's not bland. (more)

First Drive: 2008 Honda Accord Coupe - An oddly sexy Honda Accord with the heart of, well, a Honda Accord. (more)

Full Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX V6 - At the test track, the new Accord hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and ran the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 91.8 mph. That's a solid improvement over the Accord in our last V6 Family Sedan Comparison Test, but it's still well behind the Camry V6 that whomped to 60 in just 6.5 seconds and scorched the quarter in 14.6 seconds at 97.3 mph. (more)

Long-Term Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6 - With every new generation of a vehicle as popular as this, questions are raised, even more so in a segment as fiercely competitive as the family sedan market. Has Honda gone too far in an effort to spice up its volume offering, aspired to too much sophistication? (more)

They have a TSX sized car. It's called the Civic.

No, the Civic is smaller than that. In fact, in Canada, they have a Civic based Acura, the CSX, sold alongside the TSX. See it here: http://www.acura.ca/

How do you suggest tying day/night setting to interior brightness control should work? It seems you guys don't know what day/night button does. There is a separate adjustment to adjust intensity on the nav screen (which could be tied to interior light adjustment). Day/Night setting flips between bright versus dark background (not the intensity of it).

But if one doesn't get this simple point, then I'm not surprised that the button is being called unnecessary and adding to unfriendliness (not in my world).

I do agree with you about need for a smaller car. TSX is it, but I think Honda should have something in mid-20s, as TSX approaches $30K. If it were up to me, I would make TSX a smaller TL w/V6 and position it in $30-$35K range. CSX would be that new smaller sedan, with TSX drive train (but could still share platform with Civic).

Okay, we (I) get it. It's just a "theme" button. Big deal. The glaring brightness is still the same. On my 550i, I can turn off the iDrive display, but the screen is still back lit. The display is blank, but the light output is about the same. A big whoopty-do to BMW for that one.

It seems to be a big deal to both (all) of us or else we won't be talking about it for pages. Where we differ is in finding the practical side of it (versus missing the point).

I'm ashamed to say I've never bothered to learn about all these adjustments. All I know is when I turn the headlights on, the Nav screen goes into night mode. Headlights off --- day mode. That's all I need.

There is nothing to be ashamed of.

For most part it is logical to leave it in "auto" mode, which will switch between day/night mode depending on when the headlights are on or off. But with auto on/off in new Accord, I'm not sure if I want it to decide for me though. For most part it may work, but for some cases like driving in the rain (but the ambient light is still bright enough to washout the display), I prefer to set day mode even when head lights are on.

The folks complaining about additional button don't understand its point. Besides confusing the function (differentiation between variable brightness control as opposed to switch between dark and bright), they might be fine turning off the entire interior light if one did want the LCD display turned "off",

I haven't had a chance to use the button yet, but my guess is that it will cycle thru the four options (Day-Night-Auto-Off). In my TL, I must go into set up screen and select one of those. So, it requires taking eyes off the road. OTOH, if the button in new Accord does what I think it does, the only thing the driver needs to worry about it finding the button (and it appears to be conveniently located), and continue driving to adjust the background to one of the four options. The difference would be between a fraction of a second compared to 2-3 seconds.

Day/Night setting flips between bright versus dark background (not the intensity of it).

My civic nav system is customizable so I can have the light background on the map both day or night. (I find the black background maps hard to read.) I'm surprised the Accord doesn't permit the same customization. I can also customize a different brightness setting for day and for night. As well as the nav display being tied to the instrument panel brightness control so I can adjust it from there if I want too.

I think the Accord is Amazing,
I think it sets a beautiful,
exterior and interior, to be a rolemodel for Camry, Malibu, and Altima, and can easily pass for an acura, i say much more better than the boring Camry, Sloppy Altima, and downright unsatisfying Malibu.

Did you feel the articles delivered the right impression about the car to the readers?
