Full Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX V6 - At the test track, the new Accord hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and ran the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 91.8 mph. That's a solid improvement over the Accord in our last V6 Family Sedan Comparison Test, but it's still well behind the Camry V6 that whomped to 60 in just 6.5 seconds and scorched the quarter in 14.6 seconds at 97.3 mph. I don't get having two 4-cylinder choices. I'm hoping they drop the weaker one soon enough, perhaps when they bring in the diesel. Why would I even care? I don't know, I just dislike configuration complexity. Too bad it grew. I think the 07 is the perfect size, but I guess I expected it. It was very refreshing when Nissan actually shrunk the Altima. I'm a little sketchy on the cylinder deactivation. Will the on-off-on cycles be undetectable? I'm looking forward to a more thorough drive session from the magazines. Will it be faster than the other two?

Replying to: johnmarco (Aug 21, 2007 2:36 pm) 1. Engine vibration at idle transmitted to the motor mounts when the software forgets to change the "active" engine mounts from VCM to non-VCM mode. 2. The engine exhaust system has a droning defect noise that Honda has conveniently called "normal operating characteristic". There is a "band-aid" fix that probably satisfies 80-90% of people in the warm climates. That being said, I will buy another Accord in the spring. I miss my old '03 Accord EXV6 although it had its share of mechanical problems. This time I will make sure there is no major design flaws before buying.

i-VTEC SOHC V6= V6 VTEC (VTEC is only on the intake valves) with VCM (Variable Cylinder Management), found in new Accord V6 5AT, Odyssey Touring and previous Accord Hybrid V6. These use regular grade gas but have been known to produce more power with premium fuel. No VTC (Variable Timing Control). Acura V6's and manual V6 Accord coupes are just regular VTEC V6's (intake valves only) with more power, but dont feature VCM or VTC but do require premium fuel Accord coupe excluded from premium. i-VTEC DOHC 2.4L 4cyl= i-VTEC and VTC (Variable Timing Control) are only on the INTAKE valves ONLY. Basically a more economic version of the 2.4L. These use regular grade gas and are found in the Accord, Element, and CRV. i-VTEC DOHC 2.0/2.4L 4cyl= VTC (Variable Timing Control) is on the intake valves only BUT the i-VTEC is on BOTH the INTAKE and EXHAUST valves. Sport oriented version of the K series family. Always have higher compression ratios, more agressive cams, ECU tuning and have higher redlines. They benefit from better air flow from the intake manifold to the exhaust and have stronger internals to cope with increased revolutions. These use PREMIUM gas and are found in the 2.4L Acura TSX, 2.0L Acura RSX Type-S (discontinued) and the 2.0L Honda Civic Si. Hope this helps.....

I was in a consumer group that got to drive the new Accord about a month ago. The car did not seem like its much bigger than the current car. If you are familiar with the current car you will feel right at home in the new car. It appeared to me the car is a little softer in the suspension and rode better on pothole filled roads. There are no blind spots in the car. The view out the rear while merging and passing cars is uninhibiting. The car I drove was a 4 cylinder EX model and it compared the same as the current car in aceleration. The tires are bigger on the new car and made the car feel more connected to the road, they really fill up the wheel well nicely. The trunk is still contoured to hold at least two sets of golf clubs in the back. The car we drove was a glossy blue with gray leather interior. We were all impressed.

Anyone know the color combos, specifically which exterior colors are available with black leather in the sedan?

Standard VSA on 4 cyl is most welcome. But I don't understand the "bigger is better" mentality. The old Accord was a bit large for me. I'll probably look more seriously at the TSX now.
