You are in the Honda Accord Forum. Your Hosts are pat & karens
First Drive: 2008 Honda Accord Sedan - The '08 Accord strikes a familiar balance of performance, value and efficiency. But this time it's not bland. (more)
First Drive: 2008 Honda Accord Coupe - An oddly sexy Honda Accord with the heart of, well, a Honda Accord. (more)
Full Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX V6 - At the test track, the new Accord hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and ran the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 91.8 mph. That's a solid improvement over the Accord in our last V6 Family Sedan Comparison Test, but it's still well behind the Camry V6 that whomped to 60 in just 6.5 seconds and scorched the quarter in 14.6 seconds at 97.3 mph. (more)
Long-Term Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6 - With every new generation of a vehicle as popular as this, questions are raised, even more so in a segment as fiercely competitive as the family sedan market. Has Honda gone too far in an effort to spice up its volume offering, aspired to too much sophistication? (more)

One of my favorite spots is where we have two left turn lanes onto the entrance ramp of I-40. 2/3 of the way down, the two lanes merge into one to then enter the highway. With 340HP, RWD, A/T, and ESP (with traction control) turned ON, I can comfortably make that full throttle left turn from a standing stop without spinning the wheels or the car! (I always choose the inside lane just in case!) With the ESP OFF and 390# of torque, I might be just making doughnuts, or doing a crash and burn! No thanks!! Also test numbers are one thing, the real world is something else. Against a hot car with a manual trans, one ploy with an A/T is to leave gently so that the other guy relaxes, and then floor it just as he shifts early into second gear. That really hurts their feelings!! With this car I can floor it at 20MPH on a gravel road, and accelerate straight and smooth without hardly disturbing a stone!! Try that with your Non VCM FWD car!! Using traction control, stability control, and ABS just makes driving so much easier and safer, even when doing things that could be considered dangerous or even reckless!! Stability Control is now considered the most important safety device since the Seat Belt! I concur!! |

| Have had the new 08 Honda Accord EX V6 for a month now. Love many things about it, BUT, we are hearing "lifter" noise in the engine and when we shift from reverse to drive, we hear a large click. Dealer has been notified, but has no answer. Has anyone else experienced this? Next stop, we will call Honda! | |

I just picked up my new 08 sedan. I didn't really notice at first that the head rests are tilted foward a great deal, making my head lean forward. After driving for a couple of days to work, my neck and right side back muscles have been starting to ache. When I get in and start driving now, I really notice it. Has anyone else experienced this? Why did they change a good head rest? My 01 Accord sedan was very comfortable. Dont get me wrong, I love the seat in the 08, but not the head rest. I guess I could take it out, but then safety is the issue and insurance claims may not cover if not there.

The IIHS has started testing seats to see how they perform and manufacturers try to perform well in those tests. You'll probably need to adjust the rear seatback angle to compensate for the tilt of the headrest. |

Granted there's the article that was posted about why Honda did it. However, for many people the head restraint has been a discomfort. I think I read in that forum that somebody took it out and put in a Civic head restraint and found it very comfortable. You definitely don't want to drive without one. I'm not sure if insurance would care if you take out the Accord restraint. |

Saw a test of the 6 speed coupe and it ran 14.5 at 99.8 mph. Just FYI.

Replying to: blufz1 (Nov 09, 2007 9:11 pm) Accord Coupe V6/6MT is likely underrated by quite a bit. This is being supported by two dyno tests on new Accords, and compared to more powerful cars from measurements on same machines. The first of two dyno runs was completed couple of days ago on dynapack which measures output at the hubs. The Accord showed 268 HP/248 lb-ft which happens to be the rating at the crank! An Infiniti G35 (rated 286 HP) was run on the same machine today, and it got 262 HP, six HP less than Accord despite being rated 18 HP higher. The second run was done on dynojet which measures output at the wheels (so accounts for greater loss). An Accord with only 1000 mile on the odo measured 240 HP. A rough estimate is that at the crank, the Accord Coupe/V6 is producing 280-285 HP but Honda is underrating it (likely "matching" it with the VCM version, as well as for marketing reasons to favor Acura TL-S which is rated at 286 and likely underrated itself as a potential marketing reason to favor Acura RL which is rated at 290 HP).
