First Drive: 2008 Honda Accord Sedan - The '08 Accord strikes a familiar balance of performance, value and efficiency. But this time it's not bland. (more)
First Drive: 2008 Honda Accord Coupe - An oddly sexy Honda Accord with the heart of, well, a Honda Accord. (more)
Full Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX V6 - At the test track, the new Accord hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and ran the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 91.8 mph. That's a solid improvement over the Accord in our last V6 Family Sedan Comparison Test, but it's still well behind the Camry V6 that whomped to 60 in just 6.5 seconds and scorched the quarter in 14.6 seconds at 97.3 mph. (more)
Long-Term Test: 2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6 - With every new generation of a vehicle as popular as this, questions are raised, even more so in a segment as fiercely competitive as the family sedan market. Has Honda gone too far in an effort to spice up its volume offering, aspired to too much sophistication? (more)

We are not talking about a whole lot of people to try an impress here. In the car making world that Honda is in, dollars and sen$e rules first and foremost and thus Automatic Transmissions, call them what you want, rule this land without dinosaurs!

Burning tires is like burning money, and just as stupid!! Because a little wheel spin helps the times. The wheel spin gets the rpms up, and more rpms means more hp. Car testers have mentioned before, that being able to turn traction control off, helps 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

Two of these tracks were stock car TRACKS with extensions, shaped like the letter 'Q'. The starting line was at the end of the extension, then onto the oval track, down the straightaway to the finish line, around the rest of the track to slow down (with the drum brakes), and back to the pits. Sunday was on a dedicated dragstrip called a DRAGWAY. When we spoke of going racing, we referred to it as "Going to the TRACK." In those days we went to the TRACK, not to the STRIP! We also did a lot of 'street racing' for fun before it became a near Federal offense to do so! We would cruise Main Street and Lake Avenue looking for a 'Smart A**' like you to take away their know-it-all pride and often their cash! After too many tickets, a few 'near-death' experiences, and a fatal accident (not me, a close friend), we confined our racing to the TRACK!!

One of my favorite spots is where we have two left turn lanes onto the entrance ramp of I-40. 2/3 of the way down, the two lanes merge into one to then enter the highway. With 340HP, RWD, A/T, and ESP (with traction control) turned ON, I can comfortably make that full throttle left turn from a standing stop without spinning the wheels or the car! (I always choose the inside lane just in case!) With the ESP OFF and 390# of torque, I might be just making doughnuts, or doing a crash and burn! No thanks!! Also test numbers are one thing, the real world is something else. Against a hot car with a manual trans, one ploy with an A/T is to leave gently so that the other guy relaxes, and then floor it just as he shifts early into second gear. That really hurts their feelings!! With this car I can floor it at 20MPH on a gravel road, and accelerate straight and smooth without hardly disturbing a stone!! Try that with your Non VCM FWD car!! Using traction control, stability control, and ABS just makes driving so much easier and safer, even when doing things that could be considered dangerous or even reckless!! Stability Control is now considered the most important safety device since the Seat Belt! I concur!! |

| Have had the new 08 Honda Accord EX V6 for a month now. Love many things about it, BUT, we are hearing "lifter" noise in the engine and when we shift from reverse to drive, we hear a large click. Dealer has been notified, but has no answer. Has anyone else experienced this? Next stop, we will call Honda! | |
